<p>Former Congress Delhi President Arvinder Singh Lovely on Saturday (May 4) joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) days after resigning from the party.</p>

<p>Lovely joined the saffron party in the presence of Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, BJP General Secretary Vinod Tawde and Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva.</p>

<p>Along with Lovely, several other leaders including former Congress MLAs Raj Kumar Chauhan, Naseeb Singh and Neeraj Basoya and former Youth Congress President Amit Mallik joined the BJP.</p>

<p>After joining the party, Lovely said, "I had resigned from the post of Delhi Congress President and after that, I met all my colleagues and thousands of Congress workers. All those people said that you should not sit at home and should continue fighting for the people of Delhi and the country."</p>

<h2><strong>Lovely wrote letter to Kharge</strong></h2>

<p>Lovely, who stepped down from the post of the Delhi Congress chief on April 28, wrote a letter to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge citing that he was against the alliance between Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"The Delhi Congress unit was against an alliance with a party which was formed on the sole basis of levelling false, fabricated and malafide corruption charges against the Congress party. Despite that, the party made a decision to ally with the AAP in Delhi...," Arvinder Singh Lovely wrote in his resignation letter.</p>

<p>He further underlined that the remarks made by the North-East Delhi candidate Kanhaiya Kumar where he made "factually incorrect statements" and falsely praised Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, did not go well with the local party unit.</p>

<p>"Such ill-thought and factually incorrect statements have not gone down well with the local party unit since, the local party workers had an inherent understanding that the alliance was not done in appreciation of AAP's false propaganda of the development of Delhi and was in fact, a "compromise&nbsp;to improve the chances of victory for the party as part of the National Alliance," he said.</p>

<p>Voting for all the seven Lok Sabha constituencies in Delhi is scheduled to take place on May 25, which is the sixth phase of the ongoing general elections.</p>

<p>The results of the polls will be announced on June 4.</p>

<p>People of Delhi are determined to form a strong government led by the BJP for development of the city, city BJP president Manoj Tiwari said after the victory of the party in the Lok Sabha polls.</p>

<p>"The AAP has been pushed to a distant third in Delhi in the Lok Sabha polls. Delhi people have rejected politics of lies," Tiwari said.</p>

<p>People have made up their mind to replace the AAP dispensation with a strong government under the BJP in 2020, he claimed.</p>

<p>"The negative politics practised by negative-minded leaders of Delhi has been rejected by the people and they are determined to form a strong government after Assembly elections," he said.</p>

<p>Tiwari attributed BJP's victory in Delhi to the works of the Modi government.</p>

<p>The victory margins were massive this time. BJP's West Delhi candidate Parvesh Singh Verma won by a margin 5,78,486 votes, breaking his own victory margin record of 2014.</p>

<p>He was followed by North West Delhi candidate Hans Raj Hans who defeated his AAP rival Gugan Singh by a margin of 5,53,897 votes.</p>

<p>Former cricketer Gautam Gambhir defeated Congress' Arvinder Singh Lovely by a margin of 3,91,222 votes.</p>

Lok Sabha election result 2019: High in confidence after winning all 7 seats in Delhi, BJP sets eye on assembly polls

<p>The BJP on Monday accused the Congress of playing a “joke” on Dalits with its “farce of a fast” and mocked the opposition party, saying its leaders claim of bringing a change but cannot abstain from one meal and their president Rahul Gandhi cannot wake up in morning even for a day as they are used to “politics of luxury”.</p>

<p>After a picture of Delhi Congress leaders having a meal at a restaurant before they were to sit on a fast at Rajghat “against the alleged caste violence and communalism” went viral, the BJP latched onto it to claim that the opposition party’s “double standards” were exposed and that it had ridiculed Mahatma Gandhi’s principles of ‘satyagrah’.</p>

<p>BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra also took a dig at Rahul Gandhi for turning up at Rajghat at 1 pm while the fast had started at 10.30 am, saying it shows that the Congress chief cannot wake up in the morning as he and his colleagues were used to “politics of luxury”.&nbspHe contrasted it with the “politics of performance” of Prime Minister Narendra Modi who, he noted, comes from a common family belonging to a backward caste and has worked to bring Dalits in mainstream socially and economically.</p>

<p>“This is politics of performance versus politics of luxury. You cannot wake up in morning, cannot escape even one meal but you claim of bringing a big change…. You have played a joke on the poor and Dalits while sitting in Rajghat,” he said.</p>

<p>Patra also attacked Rahul Gandhi for calling Modi anti-Dalit, saying the Congress denied Dalits financial inclusion during its long rule and its leaders cannot escape one meal for them.&nbsp“It is the Congress which is anti-Dalit not Modi who economically and socially empowered them with schemes like Jan Dhan and Mudra,” he said.</p>

<p>Referring to the presence of Sajjan Kumar and Jagdish Tytler, accused of involvement in anti-Sikh riots, at Rajghat, Patra said that the Congress leaders’ decision to keep them away from dais was an admission of guilt.&nbspHe ridiculed the Congress’ nation-wide fast, saying its leaders had come to the Mahatma Gandhi’s memorial to talk about non-violence but the presence of Kumar and Tytler exposed the party’s “real violent” face.</p>

<p>“The Congress has fallen into its own trap. What we have seen from Rahul Gandhi today is not a fast but the farce of a fast. (It was) an attempt by his party to fast-track his politics to burnish his credentials despite people rejecting him time and again,” Patra told reporters.&nbsp“It was not ‘upwaas’ (fast) but ‘uphaas’ (mockery),” he said.&nbsp“The Congress had today lost in the eye of the people,” he claimed, adding “the masses will answer to its misleading politics in 2019 with truth and the NDA will return with a bigger mandate”.</p>

<p>The “hunger of power” of the Congress and the Gandhi family were exposed, he said, claiming that the opposition party practices one kind of politics before cameras and another behind it.&nbspThe Congress was now doing politics to divide the country for its interests, he claimed.</p>

<p>After the BJP’s allegations, Delhi Congress’ Arvinder Singh Lovely said his party leaders had breakfast well before the protest began and added there was nothing wrong in it.&nbsp“The fast was scheduled to begin at 10:30 AM and we were busy with preparation till late night yesterday. We went for breakfast at around 8 AM. So, there is nothing wrong in it,” Lovely told reporters.</p>

After the BJP’s allegations, Delhi Congress’ Arvinder Singh Lovely said his party leaders had breakfast well before the protest began and added there was nothing wrong in it. “The fast was scheduled to begin at 10:30 AM and we were busy with preparation till late night yesterday. We went for breakfast at around 8 AM. So, there is nothing wrong in it,” Lovely told reporters.

<p>Delhi BJP leader Harish Khurana noted earlier that Congress leaders were seen eating at a restaurant in Delhi before sitting on a protest and observing fast at Rajghat over atrocities on Dalits.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Lovely retorted saying that the photograph was taken earlier in the day before 8 am. He further added that the fast is symbolic in nature and will be observed from 10.30 am to 4.30 pm today. It is not an indefinite hunger strike.&nbsp;</p>

<p>He further added that the BJP should focus on running the country rather than looking into what others are eating.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Former Delhi Congress chief Arvinder Singh Lovely rejoined the Congress party today.</p>

<p>The two-time Delhi minister had left the Congress to join the BJP in April last year ahead of the ahead of municipal elections.</p>

<p>It was not a happy decision for me (leaving Congress, joining BJP). It was a decision taken in pain. Ideologically I was a misfit there,&quot; Arvinder Singh Lovely said after rejoining the Congress.</p>

<p>Lovely was a minister in former chief minister Sheila Dikshit&#39;s government from 2003 till 2013.</p>

<p>&quot;I am feeling quite good that he (Arvinder Singh Lovely) has come back. He realised that in the end , only one&#39;s own house is good,&quot; Sheila Dikshit said.</p>

<p>Congress president Rahul Gandhi and Delhi Congress chief Ajay Maken welcomed Arvinder Singh Lovely back into the Congress.</p>
