"I finally got a job!" announced Loya on LinkedIn. In the post, he spoke about how he sent more than 500 cold emails, submitted more than 300 applications and sat for 10 interviews before he got a job offer as Powerwall Technical Support Specialist at Tesla.&nbsp;

"Despite having three internships, a good GPA, and active extracurriculars, I never imagined I would be in a position where I’d be unemployed for five months. I lost my lease, my health insurance, and constantly felt the ticking clock of my visa status, knowing I could be forced to leave the U.S. at any moment. For months, I moved between friends’ apartments, slept on air mattresses, and saved every dollar I could to get by," he added.

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) said late on Tuesday (August 8) that apps without proper filings will be punished after the grace period that will end in March next year, a move that experts say would potentially restrict the number of apps and hit small developers hard.

You Yunting, a lawyer with Shanghai-based DeBund Law Offices， said the order is effectively requiring approvals from the ministry. The new rule is primarily aimed at combating online fraud but it will impact on all apps in China, he said.

Rich Bishop, co-founder of app publishing firm AppInChina, said the new rule is also likely to affect foreign-based developers who have been able to publish their apps easily through Apple's App Store without showing any documentation to the Chinese government.

Bishop said that in order to comply with the new rules, app developers now must either have a company in China or work with a local publisher.

Apple did not immediately reply to a request for comment.

The iPhone maker pulled over a hundred artificial intelligence (AI) apps from its App Store last week to comply with regulations after China introduced a new licencing regime for generative AI apps for the country.

The ministry's notice also said entities "engaged in internet information services through apps in such fields as news, publishing, education, film and television and religion should also submit relevant documents."

The requirement could affect the availability of popular social media apps such as X, Facebook and Instagram. Use of such apps is not allowed in China, but they can be still downloaded from app stores, enabling Chinese to use them when travelling overseas.

China already requires mobile games to obtain licences before they launch in the country and it had purged tens of thousands of unlicensed games from various app stores in 2020.

Tencent's WeChat, China's most popular online social platform, said on Wednesday that mini apps, apps that can be opened within WeChat, must also follow the new rules.

The company said that new apps must complete the filing before launch starting in September while existing mini apps have until the end of March.

TikTok has stated that it plans to delete private data on US users from its data centres in Singapore and Virginia as it will be storing the complete data with Oracle cloud infrastructure.

Three persons accused in the 2014 Burdwan blast case have pleaded guilty in applications filed before a special NIA court here, their lawyer Md Shajahan Hossain said here on Thursday.

Suspected terrorists were making bombs and explosive devices inside a rented house at Khagragarh in Burdwan district when a blast occurred on October 2, 2014, killing two of them and injuring a third.

Investigations revealed that they had links with terrorist outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).

The case was first taken up by the West Bengal CID and then transferred to the NIA within a few days.

Of the 31 people named accused in the case, 24 pleaded guilty on two separate occasions in 2019.

They were sentenced to five years to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment by the special NIA court.

The NIA had filed the primary chargesheet in the case in March, 2015, where it said that there was a "conspiracy of JMB, a proscribed terrorist organisation in Bangladesh, to overthrow the existing government in Bangladesh through violent terrorist acts".

Tech news outlet the Verge reported the pricing earlier on Friday, citing confidential documents.

The European Commission in July found Google abused its market dominance in mobile software to essentially force Android partners to pre-install search and Chrome on their gadgets. It levied a record $5-billion fine, which Google has appealed, and threatened additional penalties unless the company ended its illegal practices.

The new system should give Google's rivals such as Microsoft Corp more room to partner with hardware makers to become the default apps for search and browsing, analysts said.

Google to charge Android partners up to $40 per device for apps

The process of filing petitions for H-1B, considered as the most sought-after work visa among highly skilled Indian professionals, begins tomorrow amidst unprecedented scrutiny by the Trump Administration.

A strong indication is coming from US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), the federal agency which is responsible to process all H-1B visas, that there will be zero tolerance by it for even minor errors.

Chatter at various social media platforms and groups indicate that immigration attorneys this time expect a much high rate of rejection.

The H1B visa is a non-immigrant visa that allows US companies to employ foreign workers in speciality occupations that require theoretical or technical expertise. The technology companies depend on it to hire tens of thousands of employees each year from countries like India and China.

The H1-B visa has an annual numerical limit cap of 65,000 visas each fiscal year as mandated by the Congress. The first 20,000 petitions filed on behalf of beneficiaries with a US master's degree or higher are exempt from the cap.

Days ahead of the start of the H-1B visa application process for the fiscal year 2019, beginning October 1 this year USCIS warned that all duplicate applications would be subject to rejection. In previous years filing of duplicate petitions, by companies, so that applicants could have greater chance in getting through the lottery had become a normal practice.

USCIS has also said that it will reject H-1B petitions requesting an earlier employment start date or a start date of "As Soon As Possible" or "ASAP."

Moreover, the US immigration authorities have fired a salvo to deter misuse of the process. It seeks to block filing of multiple applications by ‘related entities’ for the same visa-seeker, for substantially the same job.

Multiple applications of such nature, which undermine the integrity of the lottery process, will be rejected and approvals revoked, said the US Immigration and Citizenship Services (USCIS) in a recent policy memorandum.

From April 2 (Monday), the USCIS will open its doors to H-1B visa applications for the 2018- 2019 season. Successful applicants who are allotted the visa will be able to work in the US from October 1, 2018 during the tenure of the visa — which may be for an initial maximum period of three years.

If the applicant is seeking an extension of stay or change of status, he/she should include evidence to establish that the beneficiary will maintain a valid nonimmigrant status through the employment start date being requested, USCIS said in its filing tips.&nbsp

Given the general campaign against highly skilled Indian professionals, the applications by Indian companies are likely to face a greater scrutiny of all these petitions. As in the previous years, Indian companies would have to paymuch more fee per application than those from other countries. On an average they are required to pay USD 6,000 to the federal government per H-1B application.&nbsp

And by then time the successful applicant appear before the American diplomatic missions -- embassies and consulates - for a formal visa interview and stamping on their passport, they would have to be ready with details of the social media profile, emails and phone numbers in the last five years.&nbsp

On Friday, the State Department issued a formal notification in this regard which would come into force after 90 days.&nbsp

Even in the past, the USCIS has cracked down on errant companies. Given the high demand for H-1B visas, the number of applicants far outstrips the quota set by the US government. Only 65,000 visas are allotted annually under the regular cap (also known as general quota) and an additional 20,000 visas under the Master’s cap (for those having an advanced degree from US universities).

Protecting American workers by combating fraud in our employment-based immigration programs is a priority for USCIS, it said, adding that it is furthering its efforts by enhancing and increasing site visits, interviews, and investigations of petitioners who use the H-1B visa programme.&nbsp

"These efforts will help assist in the prosecution of program violators and ensure that American workers are not overlooked or replaced in the process," USCIS said.&nbsp

The process of filing petitions for H-1B, considered as the most sought-after work visa among highly skilled Indian professionals, begins tomorrow amidst unprecedented scrutiny by the Trump Administration. A strong indication is coming from US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), the federal agency which is responsible to process all H-1B visas, that there will be zero tolerance by it for even minor errors. Chatter at various social media platforms and groups indicate that immigration attorneys this time expect a much high rate of rejection. The H1B visa is a non-immigrant visa that allows US companies to employ foreign workers in speciality occupations that require theoretical or technical expertise. The technology companies depend on it to hire tens of thousands of employees each year from countries like India and China. The H1-B visa has an annual numerical limit cap of 65,000 visas each fiscal year as mandated by the Congress. The first 20,000 petitions filed on behalf of beneficiaries with a US master's degree or higher are exempt from the cap. Days ahead of the start of the H-1B visa application process for the fiscal year 2019, beginning October 1 this year USCIS warned that all duplicate applications would be subject to rejection. In previous years filing of duplicate petitions, by companies, so that applicants could have greater chance in getting through the lottery had become a normal practice. USCIS has also said that it will reject H-1B petitions requesting an earlier employment start date or a start date of "As Soon As Possible" or "ASAP." Moreover, the US immigration authorities have fired a salvo to deter misuse of the process. It seeks to block filing of multiple applications by ‘related entities’ for the same visa-seeker, for substantially the same job. From April 2 (Monday), the USCIS will open its doors to H-1B visa applications for the 2018- 2019 season. If the applicant is seeking an extension of stay or change of status, he/she should include evidence to establish that the beneficiary will maintain a valid nonimmigrant status through the employment start date being requested, USCIS said in its filing tips. Given the general campaign against highly skilled Indian professionals, the applications by Indian companies are likely to face a greater scrutiny of all these petitions. As in the previous years, Indian companies would have to paymuch more fee per application than those from other countries. On an average they are required to pay USD 6,000 to the federal government per H-1B application. And by then time the successful applicant appear before the American diplomatic missions -- embassies and consulates - for a formal visa interview and stamping on their passport, they would have to be ready with details of the social media profile, emails and phone numbers in the last five years. On Friday, the State Department issued a formal notification in this regard which would come into force after 90 days. Even in the past, the USCIS has cracked down on errant companies. Given the high demand for H-1B visas, the number of applicants far outstrips the quota set by the US government. Only 65,000 visas are allotted annually under the regular cap (also known as general quota) and an additional 20,000 visas under the Master’s cap (for those having an advanced degree from US universities). The Philippines has stopped accepting applications for new ride-sharing vehicles of Uber and Grab due to a backlog amid a government review of its policies on fare spikes, a senior official said today. 
 
The Southeast Asian nation was the first country to regulate app-based car-hailing operations after coming out with rules last year. 
 
&quot;It&#39;s just the new applications that we have to suspend so we don&#39;t have a huge amount of backlog,&quot; said Cherie Mercado, spokeswoman of the transportation department. 
 
Applications have ballooned to record high, with 29,000 pending, 23,000 of which were for Uber and the rest divided between Grab and u-Hop, she said. 
 
Mercado said the suspension was indefinite and it was not clear what changes would be required to reverse it. 
 
&quot;We will also review the fare scheme, the surge pricing,&quot; she said, referring to the fluctuating fare charges which have caused friction as conventional taxis are not allowed to apply them.
