In a statement, Israel's military denied attacking aid centres, describing the reports as "false".

"As the IDF assesses the incident with the thoroughness that it deserves, we urge the media to do the same and only rely on credible information," read the statement.

More than 2.3 million people, who were living in the Gaza Strip, have been displaced due to the conflict. During aid distribution, several deadly incidents and chaotic situations have been reported as people scramble&nbsp;for food.

Palestinian health authorities on February 29 had said that Israeli forces killed more than 100 Palestinians&nbsp;who were waiting for an aid delivery near Gaza City.

According to Israel, the deaths took place because the crowds had surrounded aid trucks which led to victims getting trampled or run over.

In Deir Al-Balah, central Gaza, a house was hit by an Israeli missile in which nine people were killed, as per Palestinian medics.

As per the residents, Israeli aerial and ground bombardments continued overnight across the Gaza Strip, including in the Rafah border where nearly a million displaced people have taken shelter.

On Thursday (Feb 29), a huge crowd of people in North Gaza rushed towards food aid trucks after which&nbsp;the Israeli forces guarding those trucks opened fire at them.

"The loss of life is heartbreaking. People are so desperate that innocent people got caught in a terrible war unable to feed their families, and you saw the response when they tried to get aid in," Biden said.&nbsp;

"In addition to expanding deliveries by land, as I said, we're gonna -- we're gonna insist that Israel facilitate more trucks and more routes to get more and more people the help they need. No excuses because the truth is, aid flowing to Gaza is nowhere nearly enough," the US president further said.&nbsp;

"Now, it's nowhere nearly enough. Innocent lives are on the line, and children's lives on the line and we won't stand by and let -- until they -- until we get more aid in there. We should be getting hundreds of trucks in, not just several. I won't stand by and we won’t let up," he added.

At a media briefing, White House National Security Communications Advisor John Kirby said, "There's few military operations that are more complicated than humanitarian assistance air drops. This is----this is a tough military mission to do because so many parameters have to be exactly right. We're going to pursue this the way we would pursue any such operation -- carefully."

He added that the planning will be robust. "I know that we will learn from the first airdrops, and this will be a part of a sustained effort. This isn't going to be one and done," Kirby added.

So, you want to do it in a way that you can get it to close -- as close as you can to the people in need, but not in a way that puts them in any danger. And so, the Pentagon will be doing a raft of planning on this," he further said.&nbsp;

Kirby also added that first airdrops will involve pallets of MREs -- Meals Ready to Eat -- and that the country has been working alongside international aid organisations on distribution.

"I can tell you that this first one coming in -- in a few days, will not be the last one. It will be part of a larger, longer, sustained effort to increase the flow of humanitarian assistance," he said.

Meanwhile, Palestinian militant group Hamas slammed the “threats” issued by Israel against UNRWA and appealed to the UN and other international organisations not to "cave in to the threats and blackmail".

On Friday (Jan 26), the UNRWA said that it had sacked many employees who were accused of being involved in Hamas'&nbsp;unprecedented October 7 attack on Israel and led the United States to stop critical funding.

Head of the agency Philippe Lazzarini promised to hold "accountable, including through criminal prosecution" any UNRWA employee who is found to be involved in acts of terror.

Responding to the firing of employees, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also said that an "urgent and comprehensive independent review of UNRWA", will be conducted, as stated by his spokesman Stephane Dujarric.

The US State Department announced that it has "temporarily paused additional funding" to the agency while the claims are being reviewed by the officials. Twelve employees "may have been involved", it said.

Canada and Australia also temporarily suspended their funding to the agency.

The UK government also announced that it will be "temporarily pausing any future funding" to the UN agency for Palestinian refugees.

"The UK is appalled by allegations that UNRWA staff were involved in the 7 October attack against Israel," said the Foreign Office said, further stating that the aid will be placed on hold while "we review these concerning allegations".

"Allied countries have taken a similar decision. We are committed to providing humanitarian aid to the Palestinian population while protecting Israel's security," he said.

Amid the ongoing war in Gaza, India on Thursday released the second tranche of 2.5 million US dollars to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA), fulfilling its annual commitment of 5 million US dollars for the year 2023-24.

UNRWA, functional since 1950, carries out direct relief and works programmes for registered Palestinian refugees.

It is funded almost entirely by voluntary contributions from UN member states. The Government of India had released the first tranche of its annual commitment in November, about a month ago.

The UN agency is struggling to keep up its functioning in the middle of the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza and had appreciated and welcomed India's "generous contribution" last month coming at a difficult time, particularly in Gaza.

Palestinians in Gaza are bearing the brunt of the terrible conflict between Israel and Hamas, which has been ruling the Gaza Strip since 2007 since the October 7 attack by the militant organisation on Israel, prompting it to pound the territory to its southwest with continued air and ground strikes.

“UNRWA received a very generous contribution from India which is most welcome during these difficult times and in the face of huge needs across the region, particularly in Gaza,” a spokesperson for UNRWA, Tamara Alrifai, had told PTI last month in a text message from Amman.

India’s support is meant to help the agency's core programmes and services, including education, healthcare, relief and social services provided to Palestinian refugees.

The second tranche of the contribution was handed over to UNRWA by Charge deAffaires Elizabeth Rodrigues, a press statement from the Representative Office of India in Palestine said.

New Delhi has underlined its continued support for the agency's activities in the region and the services it provides to the Palestinian Refugees.

Earlier on November 19, India had delivered 32 tonnes of “humanitarian assistance to the people of Palestine” via the El-Arish Airport in Egypt.

Since 2018, India has given USD 30 million to UNRWA.

During an Extraordinary Virtual Ministerial Pledging Conference for UNRWA held on June 23, 2020, India’s Minister of State for External Affairs, V. Muraleedharan, announced that India will contribute USD 10 million to UNRWA over the next two years.

Since the October 7 attack by Hamas on Israel and the retaliatory action by Israel, more than two-thirds of the Gaza population – of approximately 2.3 million – has fled their homes to move southwards.

The UNRWA has been struggling to provide basic services to hundreds of thousands of people in shelters.

Before the war in Gaza, UNRWA was already facing an increased demand for services resulting from a growth in the number of registered Palestine refugees, the extent of their vulnerability and their deepening poverty. The agency is mandated to provide assistance and protection to some 5.6 million Palestine refugees registered with it across its five fields of operation.

Its mission is to help Palestine refugees in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, West Bank, including East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip achieve their full human development potential, pending a just and lasting solution to their plight.

UNRWA services encompass education, health care, relief and social services, camp infrastructure and improvement, protection, and microfinance among Palestinian refugees.

During the first-ever Indian Prime Minister’s visit to Palestine in February 2018, India increased its annual financial contribution four-fold to the UNRWA core budget, from USD 1.25 million to USD 5 million.

India has also made a strong appeal to other traditional donors of UNRWA to consider enhancing their contributions as well as to non-donor member states to consider contributing to the agency in solidarity with the Palestine refugees.
