<p>A team of researchers have taken to search the Ngoye Forest, which has never been completely explored before, in order to find a female partner.</p>

<p>Despite the drone's advanced multispectral camera, searching the vast 10,000-acre forest remains a daunting task. A recent survey of only 195 acres yielded a staggering 15,780 images, hinting at the immense amount of data to be processed.</p>

<p>That’s a lot of pictures to go through, so the team has been analysing them with the help of AI.</p>

<p>“With AI, we are using an image recognition algorithm in order to recognise plants by shape,” explained Dr Laura Cinti, who is leading the project.</p>

<p>“We have generated images of plants and put them in different ecological settings, to train the model to recognise them,” she added.</p>

<p>A female plant hasn't&nbsp;been found yet, although less than two percent of the forest has been searched – researchers are currently exploring the possibility of changing the sex of a male plant.</p>

<p>“There have been reports of sex change in other cycad species due to sudden environmental changes such as temperature, so we are hopeful we can induce sex change in the E. woodii too,” said Dr Cinti.</p>

<p>“I was very inspired by the story of the E. woodii, it mirrors a classic tale of unrequited love,</p>

<p>“I’m confident there is a female out there somewhere, after all there must have been at one time. It would be wonderful to bring this plant so close to extinction back through natural reproduction,” Dr Cinti added.</p>

<p>Study co-author and Cornell University primatologist Wendy Erb said in a statement, “Our research aimed to unravel the intricacy of orangutan long calls, which play a crucial role in their communication across distances in the dense rainforests of Indonesia.”</p>

<p>“In the past three years, we have built hundreds of long call recordings, which are revealing an enthralling array of vocal diversity,” said Erb.</p>

<p>Known for their loud nature, long calls are vocalisations produced by male primates. These sounds serve as communication tools across long distances to connect with others. Previous research had compiled a 'dictionary' of the different 'pulses' within these calls.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Building on this foundation, a new study led by Dr Lisa Erb aimed to achieve three key objectives:&nbsp;</p>

<p>1) Identify the exact number of distinct pulse types.</p>

<p>2) Pinpoint the features that differentiate them.</p>

<p>3) Assess the degree of variation within these pulse types.</p>

<p>With the help of recorded video and audio sources, Erb and his team used machine learning to carefully analyse the long calls of 13 individual orangutans.</p>

<p>“Through a combination of supervised and unsupervised methods, we identified three distinct pulse types that were well differentiated by both humans and machines,” said Erb.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Framis’ marriage is not a romantic one, but part of her new project called Hybrid Couple, in which she wants to experiment with the boundaries of love, intimacy and identity in the age of AI.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Mark and his wife used the phone and their service provider Google to upload the images to their healthcare provider's messaging system and soon after received a notification that his Google account has been blocked because of “harmful content” that was “a severe violation of Google’s policies and might be illegal.”</p>

However, the big tech firm refused to reinstate his account and in a statement said, “Child sexual abuse material is abhorrent and we’re committed to preventing the spread of it on our platforms.”</p>

<p>The San Francisco Police Department investigation was headed by Nicholas Hillard, who upon investigating concluded: "that no crime occurred".</p>

<p>Robot-cum-artist Ai-Da, who was introduced in 2019, has immense talent. “The first ultra-realistic humanoid artist” as her creators call her has been using built-in artificial intelligence (AI) system to create drawings and self-portraits. &nbsp;</p>

<p>Ai-Da is a poet, a painter and a sculptor. Along with robotic arms, she also has a realistic face and can blink eyes. The camera in the eyes of Ai-Da target the subject while AI algorithms prompt her to “interrogate, select, decision-make and, ultimately, create a painting,” The Guardian reported. &nbsp;</p>

<p>The Biennale, an international exhibition, which features music, dance, architecture, film, theatre, and visual arts, will welcome Ai-Da as its first robotic artist, as per Spanish-language newspaper El País. &nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Paris-based private lab chose the bridge as it is the game that has most similarities with real-life: the information is incomplete, there are partners and opponents and the rules impose some explainability.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“What we’ve seen represents a fundamentally important advance in the state of artificial intelligence systems,” said Stephen Muggleton, a professor of machine learning at Imperial College London.</p>

<p>“Most of what the general public have heard in recent years about machine learning is based on black box systems such as AlphaGo, which is unable to explain to human beings how decisions are being made,” he added.</p>

<p>“Not being able to tell people what’s going on just doesn’t work in our societies.”</p>

<p>NukkAI aims to bring transparency to the Artificial Intelligence models, facilitate compliance, improve model performance and reduce ethical bias.</p>

<p>Their products include NuX, an interactive AI tool customised for each domain, proposes efficient solutions while providing explanations in natural language adapted to user’s profile.&nbsp;</p>

<p>It already been customised for different domains: aeronautics, education, cybersecurity, defence, etc. As NuX improves performance while responding to responsibility and transparency issues, this generic tool has potential in virtually all business verticals.</p>

Eight world champions in the card game bridge have been defeated by an artificial intelligence during a two-day tournament in Paris. The announcement was made by French startup NukkAI which was co-founded in March 2018 by Véronique Ventos and Jean-Baptiste Fantun. The Paris-based private lab chose the bridge as it is the game that has most similarities with real-life: the information is incomplete, there are partners and opponents and the rules impose some explainability. Also read | 'Breakthrough in Physics': Artificial Intelligence successfully controls plasma in nuclear fusion experiment It had introduced the NukkAI challenge which required the human champions to play 800 consecutive deals divided into 80 sets of 10. “This is something that humans do after enough experience and I was pleasantly surprised that a robot mimics typical human skills,” said Nevena Senior, a many-times world bridge champion for England and one of NooK’s challengers. “What we’ve seen represents a fundamentally important advance in the state of artificial intelligence systems,” said Stephen Muggleton, a professor of machine learning at Imperial College London. “Most of what the general public have heard in recent years about machine learning is based on black box systems such as AlphaGo, which is unable to explain to human beings how decisions are being made,” he added. Also read | New artificial intelligence model shows hidden turbulence in Sun's atmosphere “In bridge, you can’t play if you don’t explain,” said NukkAI’s other co-founder Véronique Ventos. “The pendulum is swinging towards these kinds of methods,” says Michael Littman, a professor of computer science at Brown University in Rhode Island. “Not being able to tell people what’s going on just doesn’t work in our societies.” NukkAI aims to bring transparency to the Artificial Intelligence models, facilitate compliance, improve model performance and reduce ethical bias. Their products include NuX, an interactive AI tool customised for each domain, proposes efficient solutions while providing explanations in natural language adapted to user’s profile. It already been customised for different domains: aeronautics, education, cybersecurity, defence, etc. As NuX improves performance while responding to responsibility and transparency issues, this generic tool has potential in virtually all business verticals.
