According to sources cited by NDTV, AAI has soared back into the black, recording a remarkable profit of ₹3,400 crores for the fiscal year that ended in March. This achievement marks the first time AAI has reported profits since the onset of the pandemic, which had significantly impacted air traffic and the aviation sector as a whole.

Days after India announced $250 million loans to the Maldives to deal with COVID's economic impact, New Delhi has started work on the expansion of Hanimaadhoo International Airport in the northern Maldives, which is billed as the largest infrastructure and connectivity project in that part of the Indian ocean country.&nbsp;

While the project will formally begin next year after tendering by Maldives government, an Airports Authority of India (AAI) visited the airport earlier this week for assessment and initial survey. The AAI team is preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR) and will submit it within 2 months.

The team also met with Maldives Minister of Economic Development Fayyaz Ismail and officials from Maldive's Ministry of Economic Development, the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation.&nbsp;

The expansion of the airport includes-- an extension of the runway to 2200 metres which will allow A320s, Boeing 737s to land and up-gradation of terminals, fuel farms, cargo terminal, and fire station. India has extended line of credit of $ 800 million Line of Credit for the development of the project.

A release by the Indian mission in the Maldives said, "Transparency and partnership are cornerstone principles of Indian Line of Credit projects. ....Capacity building of local companies and officials will be a priority even while the project is being implemented to assure sustainability."

The project is expected to increase development in the northern Maldives, especially when it comes to drawing investment. Earlier this week India and Maldives announced a ferry service from Tuticorin and Cochin to Kulhudhuhfushi and Male. This will increase connectivity between the 2 countries but also increase economic activity in Northern Maldives where Kulhudhuhfushi is located. &nbsp;

India has engaged in 7 major infrastructure projects in the country under $ 800 million Line of Credit--and these include Water and Sewerage network for 34 islands, Addu Roads and Reclamation project, Gulhifalhu Port, (expansion of facilities of Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company, Cricket Stadium in Hulhumale, Hanimaadhoo International Airport expansion and Cancer Hospital in Hulhumale.&nbsp;

Wearing masks and carrying a hand sanitizer will be compulsory. No passenger without masks, gloves and hand sanitizer will be permitted to enter the airport premises. Hand sanitizers, which were earlier not permitted in cabin baggage, have now been allowed upto 350ml.

A day after Jammu and Kashmir government issued a security advisory for tourists, the Airport Authority of India (AAI) on Saturday said that over 6,200 passengers were transported out of the Valley through civilian and military aircraft.While 5,829 passengers travelled through 32 scheduled flights, 387 passengers were transported through the Indian Airforce Force (IAF) aircraft.

"Further to an advisory issued by J and K government, 6216 passengers reported at Srinagar International Airport today for travelling back out of the Valley. Out of this, total 5,829 passengers travelled by 32 scheduled flights. Remaining 387 passengers were accommodated in 04 no of IAF aircraft and flown to various destination like Jammu, Pathankot, and Hindon," the AAI said in a statement.

The authority said it extended all possible support to the passengers at Srinagar airport by "ensuring safety and security of the passengers".

"All passengers were flown out of the Valley in a planned and systematic manner," it said.

The operation to vacate tourists was conducted by AAI officials in close coordination with the IAF, the state police, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), the Border Security Force (BSF), and the airlines authorities.

Airfares for flights from Srinagar this weekend have shot up to abnormally after the advisory.

For a one-way direct flight from Srinagar to Delhi, even low-cost airlines such as IndiGo, SpiceJet, GoAir and AirAsia are charging between Rs 10,000 to Rs 22,000, according to travel portals.

The normal rates generally hover around Rs 3,000.Similarly, from Srinagar to Jammu, the current flight rates are around Rs 16,000. Other places like Amritsar, Chandigarh, and Jaipur also witnessed a jump in airfares ranging between Rs 10,000 to Rs 19,000.

The Cabinet Thursday approved a proposal to manage Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Lucknow and three other airports under public-private partnership (PPP).

The three other aerodromes are those at Guwahati, Thiruvananthapuram and Mangaluru.

The operation, management and development of all these aerodromes, owned by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), would be done under PPP, an official tweet said.

This would be done through Public Private Partnership Appraisal Committee (PPPAC).

"The Cabinet has given in-principle approval for operation, management and development of Jaipur, Lucknow, Thiruvananthapuram, Guwahati, Ahmedabad and Mangaluru airports on PPP (Public-private partnership) model," Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad told media.&nbsp;
