“The money which the government had earned through auction was within the band which CAG had said,” said Rai. The ex-CAG chief also spoke about his relationship with the political establishment. He went on record to say that no political pressure was put on him as the CAG chief and he was never persuaded by the political establishment to change his report.

Though he made it a point to say that former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was incorrectly briefed on the role of CAG and he had to write him a letter to clarify his position as the head of the institution.&nbsp;

Rai pointed out that that he never received any acknowledgement of his letter but when he met ex-PM Manmohan Singh&nbsp;six months later, he remembered the letter. Vinod Rai spoke on a variety of issues including&nbsp;A. Raja’s acquittal by the trial court.&nbsp;

Rai told WION that he did not feel disappointed by the verdict. “CAG’s job was to audit and not investigate,” he said. The storm which CAG kicked off had reached the Supreme Court which ultimately cancelled the licenses paving the way for auction.

Rai rejected the charge&nbsp;that his team created policy paralysis and innocent bureaucrats got targeted.&nbsp;

“Everyone needs to be accountable even bureaucrats. Acts of commission cannot be left unpunished. Only incompetent people complained of policy paralysis,” said Vinod Rai.&nbsp;

He also made it a point to address the failure of the 2G case at the trial court. Rai said that it showed weakness on the prosecution side and CBI needs to address the issue. He also expressed happiness at the new norms being in place during&nbsp;auction of natural resources which came in the wake of the audit of the coal allocation during UPA’s regime.

Vinod Rai in his book "Good Governance" also touched on the issues relating to important pillars of democracy like Parliament and the Election Commission.&nbsp;

He was appointed as the head administrator of committee by the Supreme Court to oversee reforms in the cricket board.&nbsp;

The Delhi High Court Friday sought the response of former Telecom Minister A Raja and others on a plea by the CBI seeking an early hearing on the appeals challenging the trial court's verdict acquitting all accused in the 2G spectrum allocation case.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) sought to prepone the date of hearing of the appeals from October 24.

The court issued a notice to all the individuals and firms, who were acquitted in the case, on the CBI's plea and listed the application for hearing on July 30.

Justice A K Chawla asked the CBI's counsel as to what was so special that they are seeking early hearing of this matter.

"What is the urgency now," the court asked.

Central government standing counsel Ripu Daman Bhardwaj said the matter was of national importance with international ramifications and the hearing on the appeals be preponed from October.

The CBI has sought an early hearing in the 2G spectrum allocation case as well as in a separate case arising out of the 2G scam probe in which Essar Group promoters Ravi Kant Ruia and Anshuman Ruia and six others were acquitted by the trial court.

A special court had on December 21, 2017, acquitted Raja, DMK MP Kanimozhi and others in the CBI and ED cases.

The CBI on Friday told the Delhi High Court that the 2G spectrum case allegedly involving former telecom minister A Raja, DMK MP Kanimozhi and others was "a case of monumental loss and a shame to the nation". 
 
Challenging the acquittal of the DMK leaders and others, Additional Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told a bench of Justice SP Garg that huge loss to the public exchequer has been caused due to the spectrum allocation scam. 
 
"This is a case of monumental loss and a shame to the nation," Mehta said. 
 
The ASG also opposed the plea of the accused seeking more time to file their response saying "delaying tactics" were being adopted by them to prolong the proceedings. 
 
The high court has now posted the CBI's plea challenging their acquittal by a special court in the 2G spectrum case for August 2 while the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) plea has been fixed for August 6. 
 
During the hearing, lawyers for some of the accused in the case said that a number of charge sheets have been filed in these cases and they should be heard separately. 
 
The high court had earlier issued notices to Raja, Kanimozhi and others on the CBI's plea challenging their acquittal by a special court in the 2G spectrum case. 
 
A similar order was passed by Justice Garg on the plea of the ED challenging their acquittal in the money laundering case arising out of the 2G scam case. 
 
The court had also allowed the interim plea of the ED for maintaining status quo with regard to the properties worth around Rs 223 crore which the agency had attached in the money laundering case. 
 
The ED did not want the properties to be released from attachment, a consequence of the acquittal in the money laundering case, saying that third party rights might be created in them. 
 
On March 19, the ED moved the high court challenging the special court's order acquitting all the accused in the money laundering case arising out of the 2G scam. 
 
Yesterday, the CBI too challenged in the high court the acquittal of the accused in the case.

The CBI today moved the Delhi High Court challenging a special court order acquitting former telecom minister A Raja, DMK MP Kanimozhi and others in the 2G spectrum allocation scam case.

2G case: CBI moves Delhi High Court against acquittal of Raja, Kanimozhi

The Supreme Court on Monday pulled up the Centre for delay in the investigation of the alleged 1.76 lakh crore 2G Spectrum case.

The court asked the government if there was any kind of pressure being faced from any quarter in the ongoing course of the investigation.&nbsp;

It further underlined the importance of the case, saying the people of the country cannot be fooled and kept in the dark.

A bench of Justices Arun Misra and Naveen Sinha directed the Centre to file a status report on investigation into the 2G spectrum scam and related cases arising out of it, including the Aircel-Maxis deal, in two weeks.

&quot;Aircel maxis ki janch abhi adhuri hai ..jise lekar supreme court ne ye aadeh diya..saath hi kendra sarkar ko jamkar fatkara ki 2G mamla bada mehatpurna hai aur desh ki janta ko gumrah aur andhere me nahi rakha ja sakta hai,&quot; the court said.

The apex court also ordered the investigating agencies, CBI and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to complete their probe into the 2G spectrum allocation cases and other related matters in six months.

The court asked the government if there was any kind of pressure being faced from any quarter in the ongoing course of the investigation. It further underlined the importance of the case, saying the people of the country cannot be fooled and kept in the dark. A bench of Justices Arun Misra and Naveen Sinha directed the Centre to file a status report on investigation into the 2G spectrum scam and related cases arising out of it, including the Aircel-Maxis deal, in two weeks. "Aircel maxis ki janch abhi adhuri hai ..jise lekar supreme court ne ye aadeh diya..saath hi kendra sarkar ko jamkar fatkara ki 2G mamla bada mehatpurna hai aur desh ki janta ko gumrah aur andhere me nahi rakha ja sakta hai," the court said. &quot;The chargesheet of the instant case is based mainly on misreading, selective reading, non-reading and out of the context reading of official records,&quot; it said.

The verdict said the chargesheet was based on &quot;oral statements&quot; made by witnesses during the investigation, which the witnesses did not own up in the witness-box.

&quot;There is no material evidence on record to show that Raja was the motherlode of conspiracy in the case,&quot; the judgement said.
