Nepal announced on Friday (May 3) the issuance of a new ₹ 100 currency note featuring a map that includes the contentious territories of Lipulekh, Limpiyadhura, and Kalapani, previously denounced by India as "artificial enlargement" and "untenable".

"The meeting of the council of ministers chaired by Prime Minister Pushpakamal Dahal 'Prachanda' took a decision to print the new map of Nepal, which includes the Lipulekh, Limpiyadhura and Kalapani in the&nbsp;₹&nbsp;100 denomination bank notes," government spokesperson Rekha Sharma told media persons while briefing about the cabinet decision.

"The cabinet approved to re-design the banknote of&nbsp;₹&nbsp;100 and replace the old map printed in the background of the bank note during the cabinet meetings held on April 25 and May 2," Sharma, who is also the Minister for Information and Communication, added.

In reaction to this move, S Jaishankar, India's Foreign Minister, disagreed with Nepal's decision to put disputed Indian areas on their new Rs 100 currency note. He said India's position on this is clear and that Nepal acted on its own. He also mentioned that even though both countries are talking about border issues, Nepal's actions won't change things on the ground.

"I saw that report. I have not looked at it in detail, but I think our position is very clear. With Nepal, we were having discussions about our boundary matters through an established platform. And then in the middle of that, they unilaterally took some measures on their side. But by doing something on their side, they are not going to change the situation between us or the reality on the ground," said&nbsp;Jaishankar&nbsp;while interacting with professionals in Bhubaneswar on "Why Bharat Matters."

On June 18, 2020, Nepal finalised the revision of its political map to include three strategically significant regions—Lipulekh, Kalapani, and Limpiyadhura—through a constitutional amendment. India strongly responded, calling&nbsp;it a "unilateral act" and criticising Nepal's "artificial enlargement" of territorial claims, deeming them "untenable". India asserts ownership of Lipulekh, Kalapani, and Limpiyadhura.

Nepal's boundary spans more than 1,850 km, bordering five Indian states: Sikkim, West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.

Separately,&nbsp;firefighters and residents from the local area struggled against a significant wildfire on the periphery of Nepal's capital. This comes as the Himalayan nation faces an intense fire season attributed by authorities to a heatwave.

A 26-year-old woman and her newborn baby died after doctors performed a C-section using mobile phone flashlights at a maternity home in Mumbai's Bhandup area. The maternity home is run by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The woman, Sahidun, was married to Khusruddin Ansari for 11 months, and they lived in Bhandup. She went to the hospital on April 29 after having labour pains.

As per information, the municipal corporation has&nbsp;established a committee to investigate the deaths of the woman and her newborn baby.

According to Sahidun's brother-in-law, Sharukh Ansari, the original plan was for a natural delivery. However, because the baby's heartbeat was low, the medical team opted for a cesarean section.

"Despite the lack of adequate lighting, they proceeded with the operation using a handheld torch. Although other hospital options were available, the doctors chose to continue with the procedure under risky conditions," he said as quoted by&nbsp;Free Press Journal.

<h2>Power outage leads to tragic death</h2>

When discussing her daughter-in-law's health, the mother-in-law mentioned that she was in perfect health, and all her medical reports were normal. She also mentioned that her daughter-in-law was admitted at 7 am on Monday and remained in the hospital until 8 pm, with the doctors repeatedly assuring that the delivery would proceed naturally.

She added, “Then, when I went to meet her, I saw that she was covered in blood. They had made an incision and then came to get a signature saying she had suffered a fit and a C-section was needed."

"That's when the power went out and they did not send us to another hospital even after that. They took us to the operation theatre and did the delivery with the help of a phone torch. The child died and, when we cried, the doctor said the mother would survive. They referred us to Sion Hospital, but she had died by then. There was no oxygen available either," the mother-in-law was quoted as saying by&nbsp;NDTV.

A senior doctor from the maternity hospital, who chose to remain anonymous, also commented on the power outage, mentioning that there was a problem with the generator.

“Surgery was almost done when the electricity went off. They had to rely on the torch as the generator gave problems. It is not the doctor’s fault. The generator was repaired on the same day. The engineer had visited the hospital to check on the generator the previous day also," the doctor said as quoted by&nbsp;Hindustan Times.
