IND vs AUS: Allan Border livid with Steve Smith for showing 'thumbs-up' to Jadeja after getting beaten

Australia great and former skipper Allan Border was left fuming with the Australian battersduring the first Test in Nagpur. The Aussie great wants the current crop of Aussie playersto play with harder edge and stop giving 'thumbs up' to bowlers after getting squared up. The case in point is Australia's best batter, Steve Smith -who is known for his unconventional batting style, who after completely missing a ball from Ravindra Jadejaacknowledged the bowler and gave a thumbs-up. Border clearly wasn't pleased with the gesture, and did not mince any words while criticising Smith's actions on Fox Cricket.

“Play with a harder edge. I mean, we’re giving blokes the thumbs up when they’re beating us outside the off stump,” Border said. “What the hell is going on? That is just ridiculous. Don’t go stupid, but Australia play hard nose cricket. We’re even giving someone thumbs up … bloody hell,” he added while taking to Fox Cricket.

The incident which caught Border's ire involves Ravindra Jadeja beating Steve Smith's outside edge and getting a thumbs up from the Aussie.

“There’s so many scars there now, it’s going to be a tough few days. You can talk the talk, but ultimately the boys with the bat in hand and ball in hand have got to do the job,” the Aussie great said.

“It’s going to be hard to find a way, but they’ve just got to do it. A big, soul-searching dressing room drink-a-thon tonight, just to try to thrash something out. That’s as bad as we can play, there’s only one way to go from here,” he added after Australia got bundled out for 91 as India won the first Test by an innings and 132 runs.

Meanwhile, Ravi Ashwin was the chief destructor of the Aussie innings, claiming his 31st five-wicket haul. Apart from Ashwin, Jadeja added two more wickets to his 1st inning five-wicket haul, while Mohammed Shami took two wickets and Axar Patel took one.Earlier, India, thanks to Jadeja (70) and Axar (84),added 79 runs to their overnight tally of 321 runs and finished the innings on 400 runs with a lead of 223 runs.

The next Test between India and Australia will be played from February 17 in Delhi.
