Padma Awards 2022: Gen. Bipin Rawat among those honoured with one of India's highest civilian honours

The Padma Vibhushan was presented to General Bipin Rawat (posthumously) for Civil Service. He played a pivotal role in ushering in reforms in the Indian Armed Forces as the first Chief of Defence Staff and Secretary, Department of Military Affairs.

Shri Radhey Shyam Khemka (posthumous) has been awarded the Padma Vibhushan for his contributions to literature and education. Author, editor, and publisher of ancient Sanatan literature in regional languages, he made a lasting contribution to making Sanatan literature accessible to the masses.
 

Swami Sivananda received the Padma Shri award for yoga. During the last 50 years, he has served leprosy-affected people in Puri, dedicating his life to human welfare. He was born in 1896, and his healthy, long life has attracted the attention of national and international organisations.

The yogi has been making the rounds on the internet after he bowed to the Prime Minister and President as a mark of respect.

Dr Cyrus Soli Poonawalla has received the Padma Bhushan award for trade and industry. 

Dr Poonawalla is the Chairman of the Poonawalla Group. 

The Poonawalla Group includes the Serum Institute of India, India's top biotech company and the world's biggest vaccine manufacturer, the maker of COVID-19 vaccine Covishield. 
 

Acharya Shri Chandanaji was awarded Padma Shri for her social work.

She is the first Jain Sadhvi to be honoured with the title of Acharya.

A founder of Veerayatan, she has established educational centres in Bihar, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Nepal and many other places.

Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad has been awarded the Padma Bhushan for his work in public affairs. Shri Azad has held various important positions in his distinguished career as a political leader and social worker.

Professor Najma Akhtar has been awarded the Padma Shri for her contributions to literature and education.

A leading educational administrator and institution builder, she is Jamia Millia Islamia's first female vice-chancellor in over a century of the university's existence.

In recognition of his civil service, Shri Rajiv Mehrishi was awarded the Padma Bhushan.

A career civil servant, he has sought and contributed to fundamental changes in systems of governance throughout his career. He also held the position of 13th Comptroller and Auditor General of India.

A Padma Shri was awarded to Dr Shyamamani Devi for her artistic achievements.

Her contributions to the codification of Odishi music's grammar and its systematic development are extremely significant. In a career that spans over seven decades, she has enthralled audiences with more than 4,000 songs.

Shri N Chandrasekaran has been awarded the Padma Bhushan for his work in trade and industry. A leading industry figure in the country, he is the Chairman of Tata Sons Private Limited, the holding company and promoter of all Tata Group companies.
