Swati Maliwal assault case: AAP MP reaches AIIMS, may undergo medical check-up

Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal, whowas allegedly assaultedby Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's PA Bibhav Kumar, reached the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) late Thursday (May 16)expectedly for a medical check-up. She arrived at AIIMS after the Delhi Police filed an FIR in connection with the alleged assault.

Naming Bibhav Kumar in the FIR, the policeregistered a case under sections 354, 506, 509, and 323, among other IPC sections, for offences including assault or criminal force on a woman with intent to outrage her modesty, criminal intimidation, word gesture or acts of intent to insult, and assault.

Earlier in the day, the National Commission for Women (NCW) summoned Kumar to appear on Friday in connection with the alleged assault.

'Was slapped, hit in the stomach'

In her complaint, Maliwal said that she was"slapped, hit on the stomach, and kicked" by Kumar. She became emotionaland demanded strict action in the case, sources claimed.

"What happened to me was very bad. I have given my statement to the police on the incident that happened to me. I hope thatappropriate action will be taken. The last few days have beenvery difficultfor me. I thank those who prayed for me.Those who tried to do character assassination, saying thatshewas doing it on theinstructions of the other party, may God keep them happy too," the AAP Rajya Sabha MP said in a post on X after filing the complaint.

She also urged the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) not to politicise the incident.

Efforts are on to arrestKumar

Citing sources, areport by the news agency ANI said that Special Cell and Crime Branch teams havebeen deployedto arrest Kumar.His location isbeing traced, and severalteams of the policeare working on it, the police added.

TheBJPaccused theAAPof failing to act against Kumarand shared a photograph of himwith Arvind Kejriwalat the Lucknow airport.
