Shahjahanpur accident: At least 11 killed, many injured after tractor-trolley falls off bridge

A tractor-trolley fell off a bridge in Uttar Pradesh's Shahjahanpur district on Saturday resulting in at least 11deaths.Locals rescued the injured and rushed them to a district hospital close by. Manyhave been injured in the accident.
Theaccident occurred in the village of Birsinghpur in Tilhar when thetractor-trolleyfell off a bridge into the Garra river. Police reached the location, and launched the rescue operations.
Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanathexpressed grief over the accident and announced an ex-gratia of aroundUS$2.4Keach to the next-of-kin of the deceased, and US$610 to those injured.

The administrative officers have been directed by the chief minister to carry out relief and rescue operations in a military-like manner and ensure best medical treatment to the injured people.

According to Shahjahanpur Police, there were about 30 people in the vehicle, and they were en route to the Garra river.
Sanjeev Bajpai, additional superintendent of police (rural), told PTI that given the nature of the accidentand the injuries, the number of casualties could rise.
