Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured a clear majority with 303 seats, which is 22 more than its 2014 tally. Along with its allies, the NDA stands at 352 in the 17th Lok Sabha.

At the same time, Congress suffered a crushing defeat and since then the party is in existential crisis. Many ministers have quit the party over their failure in the Lok Sabha elections.

The Congress president had offered to step down from the party post at the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting held last Saturday, taking moral responsibility for Congress' dismal performance in the Lok Sabha elections.
However, Rahul's offer of resignation was unanimously rejected by the CWC.
