PM Modi holds seven meetings; reviews cyclone, heatwave situation in India

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held seven meetings on Sunday (June 2) that covered a wide range of topics including a brainstorming session that included talks around the agenda for the new government's first 100 days.

In the very first meeting, PM Modi reviewed the post-cyclone situation in the northeastern part of the country after cyclone Remal hit the area.

He then held discussions concerning the current heatwave situation in India, reported news agency ANI quoting government sources.

The Indian prime minister also held a meetingovercelebrating World Environment Day (June 5) on a large scale.

The PM also helda brain-storming session aimed at reviewing the agenda for a 100-day programme of the new government.

The development comes after exit polls predicted a massive win for BJP-led NDA in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections pointing at a third straight term for PM Modi.

The exit poll predictions were declared after the seventh and the last phase of the Lok Sabha polling concluded on Saturday (June 1), wrapping up the mammoth polling across 543 Parliamentary constituencies with 968 million eligible voters.

Exit Polls give BJP thumping victory

Exit polls are giving a landslide victory to Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government. National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by Modi's BJP is projected to win a two-thirds majority in the lower house of parliament as per most polls. A two-thirds majority means the government will be able to make wide-ranging amendments to the constitution.

The party needed 272 for a simple majority, but some exit polls even predict that the NDA would win 400+ seats–similar to what BJP and allies have reiterated duringthe campaigning through their slogan 'Abki baar 400 paar', meaning this time, beyond 400.

After the elections concluded, PM Modi thanked the voters."A heartfelt thank you to all those who exercised their franchise. Their active participation is the cornerstone of our democracy. Their commitment and dedication ensures that the democratic spirit thrives in our nation," the PMwrote on X.

He also praised women and young voters, saying, "I would also like to especially appreciate India’s Nari Shakti and Yuva Shakti. Their strong presence at the polls is a very encouraging sign."
