New parliament inauguration highlights: PM Modi says building 'a reflection of aspirations of new India'

During his address at the new Parliament building, PM Modi exudes confidence in the Indian lawmakers and said, "I am sure, the people's representatives who will sit in this Parliament, with new inspiration, will try to give a new direction to democracy."

"Together we have to make India a developed nation in these 25 years," he added. 
 

As PM Modi delivers address from the new Parliament House, envoys of many countries listened to the prime minister. 

The prime minister told the dignitaries at the new Parliament building that India's democracy is "our inspiration, our constitution is our resolve."

"The best representative of this inspiration, this resolution, is our Parliament," he added. 

With great pride on India as a democratic nation, PM Modi said, "India is not only a democratic nation but also the Mother of Democracy."
 

PM Modi said, "When India moves forward, the world moves forward. This new building of the Parliament will call for the development of the world along with the development of India." He added that whenever proceedings begin in this Parliament House, Sengol will continue to inspire everyone.
 

"This is not just a building. It is a reflection of the aspirations and dreams of 140 crore Indians," PM Modi said as he addresses the House on Sunday after inaugurating the new Parliament. 

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, speaking in the new Parliament, said, "The entire nation is witnessing this moment today. I express my gratitude towards PM Modi under whose leadership this new Parliament was built in under 2.5 years." 

Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh read out President Droupadi Murmu's message in the new Parliament building.

PM Modi entered the new parliament amid 'Modi, Modi' chants and received a standing ovation.

Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh, speaking in the new parliament said, "It is a matter of immense happiness that a new modern Parliament was constructed in less than 2.5 years under the leadership of PM Modi.

PM Modi reaches the new Parliament building's Lok Sabha chamber as Members of Parliament. Meanwhile, the chief ministers different states also assembled. 

Police detaied protesters marching towards the new Parliament building after a scuffle broke out between them and security personnel. 

The protesters were marching for the 'Mahila Samman Mahapanchayat' which has been called by wrestlers. 

Meanwhile, Dependra Pathak, Special CP, Law & Order, Delhi Police said,"Any attempt to create disturbance in the inauguration of the new Parliament building will be dealt with very politely and firmly. I request our respected athletes not to do any such thing today."

Congress stated that "self-glorifying authoritarian PM with utter disdain for parliamentary procedures" opened new complex. 

Sikh Guru Balbir Singh, who participated in the multi-faith prayers at the new parliament building's inauguration, said, "It is a very good thing that the new Parliament has been built. I keep myself away from politics, the only thing I can say is that everyone should work unitedly for the growth of the country." 

With the new parliament building inaugurated, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the hearts and minds of Indian citizens are filled with pride, hope and promise. 

"May this iconic building be a cradle of empowerment, igniting dreams and nurturing them into reality. May it propel our great nation to new heights of progress," Prime Minister Modi tweeted. 

Security has been tightened near the Ghazipur border as Khap panchayat leaders and farmers were to join protesting wrestlers' march to the new parliament building. 

"The opposition parties should not do politics and take part in the inauguration ceremony of the new Parliament building to strengthen democracy," Union Tribal Affairs Minister Arjun Munda said on Sunday. 

The multi-faith prayer meeting organised after the the formal inauguration of the parliament building concluded. Afterwards, PM Modi met various personalities that had gathered at the event.  

Indian PM Narendra Modi unveiled the plaque to mark the inauguration of the new parliament building after participating in the havan and installing the 'Sengol' in the lower house i.e Los Sabha.

A multi-faith meeting is currently underway at the new parliament building. Alongside the PM, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, union ministers and CMs of different states are attending the prayer meeting. 

Indian PM Modi met the workers who helped build the new parliament building and felicitated them. 

Indian PM Modi lay before the 'Sengol' to pay his respects.  Sengol refers to a historical sceptre whose name as stated in an official document originates from the Tamil word "semmai" meaning righteousness.

The news has been all about India's new parliament building which is going to be inaugurated by the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday. The ceremony will begin with the rituals and also a multi-faith prayer followed by a formal opening in the Lok Sabha.

The new parliament building has been constructed next to the old Parliament and is spread over an area of around 65,000 square metres.

Indian PM Narendra Modi alongside Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla sits for the pooja to kickstart the ceremony. Adheenams from different mutts across Tamil Nadu arrived at the new parliament building to attend the ceremony.

According to reports, as many as 20 parties, including Congress, Trinamool Congress (TMC), Aam Aadmi party (AAP) and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) amongst others will be boycotting the inauguration. 

Shiv Sena (UBT), Samajwadi Party (SP), Communist Party of India, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD), Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, Kerala Congress (Mani), Janata Dal (United), Nationalist Congress Party, Communist Party of India (Marxist), Indian Union Muslim League, National Conference, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Revolutionary Socialist Party, and Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam are the others. 

Hours before the new parliament was to be formally inaugurated, Bollywood star Shahrukh Khan took to Twitter to laud the building and PM Narendra Modi. 

"What a magnificent new home for the people who uphold our Constitution, represent every citizen of this great Nation and protect the diversity of her one People @narendramodi ji. A new Parliament building for a New India but with the age old dream of Glory for India. Jai Hind! #MyParliamentMyPride," tweeted Khan.
