J&K: 4 terrorists killed in Uri encounter, 1 still alive
Four terrorists have been killed in an encounter with security forces in Uri in Jammu & Kashmir's Baramulla district, reports said.
One terrorist is still in the area, Deputy commander, Ur Brigade Harpreet Singh said.
Police said that the terrorists were suspected to be members of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba.
The terrorists are suspected to be members of the fidayeen or a suicide squad and were planning an attack like the one in Uri in September 2016 that claimed the lives of 19 soldiers, Director General of Police SP Vaid told PTI.
"A big tragedy has been averted. Like the suicide attack on the Army base last year, they (terrorists) had similar plans this time, but the police and the Army got the information beforehand," the top police official said.
The encounter took place after the army and the police launched search and cordon operations in Uri's Kalgai area.
