Supreme Court today rapped the Centre asking the government how could it delay extradiction of liquor baron Vijay Mallya.
India's top court said the Centre's law officers must explain the reasons behind the "non-cooperation" in Mallya's extradition.
"How can court's orders not be taken seriously?," the court asked the government.
Mallya's extraditioncase is currently underway at Westminster Magistrates Court in London.
The UK court is hearing a case related to money laundering and fraud with Mallya owing several Indian banks around Rs 9,000 crores.
Last week, Mallya's defense lawyer Clare Montgomery had told the court that there was "no evidence" to link Mallya to the fraud charge and he shouldn't be extradited.
Montgomery during his argument had said that the Indian government’s case revealed a “shocking lack of appreciation of how companies function".
Mallya's defense lawyer also rejected the allegation that senior managers at state-owned lender IDBI were involved in Mallya’s plan.
The extradition hearing is expected to last two weeks.
