Republic Day 2024 LIVE updates: PM Modi walks down Kartavya Path after conclusion of parade, greets people

The iconic parade at New Delhi's Kartavya Path has started. For the first time ever, the parade is being heralded by over 100 women artists playing Indian musical instruments.

Indian President Droupadi Murmu and her French counterpart Emmanuel Macron have arrived at the Kartavya Path, where the parade will start.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday laid wreath at the National War Memorial, leading the nation in paying homage to the braveheart soldiers. 

Indian Air Force Chief Air Marshal VR Chaudhari said that the IAF women contingent taking part in the Republic Day parade will inspire the next generation of women to join the force.

Speaking to the news agency ANI, Air Marshal Chaudhari said, "Our capabilities are growing, our stature remains very high and when you talk about women, you are aware that the IAF is a completely gender-agnostic service. We have women officers serving in every branch. We have them undergoing every possible course and tenanting every possible appointment that can be given to them."

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath unfurled the national flag in Lucknow on Friday. 

The Russian embassy in New Delhi held celebrations on the occasion of India's 75th Republic Day.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese extended Republic Day wishes to India.

"Warm wishes to the people of India as you celebrate Republic Day. On our shared national days, we have an opportunity to celebrate the depth of our friendship. Australia and India have never been closer," he said.

India Republic Day 2024: The Indian Republic has turned 75 on Jan 26, 2024 since independent India transitioned into a parliamentary democracy in 1950. New Delhi's Kartavya Path is set to witness India's now-achievable ambition to be a 'developed' nation with women's role in the world's fifth largest economy being pitched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government as the accelerating factor for the country's years forward to transition from a developing to a developed nation.

What's the process?

The Indian Defence Ministry is responsible for the Republic Day parade and the celebrations and every year around September, it invites all the States, the Union Territories, Central Government departments to participate in the parade with their tableaux. 

The invitees have to submit their proposals by September 27 and the shortlisting of the proposals starts in October. The proposal should highlight elements relevant to their state/UT/ department.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to wish the country on the occasion of Republic Day. 

With around 77,000 people expected to attend the parade, including several VVIPs, over 70,000 security personnel have deployed across the city. Around 14,000 personnel alone have been deployed to secure Kartavya Path, the main area for the Republic Day parade. 

US Secretary of State Blinken congratulated India on its 75th Republic Day and hoped to deepen the "vibrant people-to-people ties between our nations".
