India: 5-year-old boy dies in Bengaluru after eating cake from cancelled order, food poisoning suspected

In a heartbreaking incident in the Indian city ofBengaluru’s Bhuvaneshwari Nagar, a five-year-old boy named Dheeraj tragically lost his life from suspected food poisoning. His death is beinglinked to a cake his father, Balaraj, a Swiggy delivery executive, brought home after a customer cancelled their order.

Details of the Incident

The family shared the cake at their home in KP Agrahara, where they soon began to feel unwell. Dheeraj, the young boy, displayed severe symptoms shortly after eating. His parents, Balaraj and Nagalakshmi, also fell ill soon after, prompting neighbours to rush them to Kim’s Hospital.

Despite the urgent medical attention, Dheeraj could not be saved and succumbed to his condition. His parents remain in critical condition in the ICU, fighting for their lives.

Police investigation initiated

The hospital reported the incident to the police, highlighting the potential link between the cake and the child's death. Due to the serious health status of his parents, authorities have been unable to obtain detailed information from them, leaving many aspects of the case.

Though food poisoning is currently suspected, investigators are also looking into other angles, including the possibility of a suicide attempt. A clear understanding of the tragedy will emerge only after further investigation and once the parents recover enough to provide additional information.
