Sophie Turner starrer 'X-Men: Dark Phoenix' to record loss of Rs 695 crore

The latest X Men film has not picked up ever since it released in the theatres last week. Starring Sophie Turner of the fame ‘Game of Thrones’ in the main lead as Jean in ‘X-Men: Dark Phoenix’, the film is projected to lose $100 million for Disney owned 20th Century Fox. This makes for Rs 695 crore.
The film was made at an estimated cost of $350 million, including a round of expensive reshoots, and advertising expenses.
The film did not record a good opening to start with, in fact, it saw the lowest opening for the franchise with $33 million in the US over its first weekend. Dark Phoenix made $104 million internationally, for a combined total of $140 million. In India, it made $2.3 million (Rs 16 crore) as it fought against Salman Khan’s ‘Bharat’.
‘Dark Phoenix’ was well below the opening weekend grosses of previous X-Men films such as ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ ($262.9M), ‘Logan’ ($247.4M) and ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ ($166.6M).
As for what didn’t work for the film, some reports suggest that Fox lost faith in the film, which completed filming in 2017. Fearing that its finale was too focused on Jean Grey, the final act was completely reshot to include more characters.
