It has been a challenging time for the royal family as Kate has been in the early stages of chemotherapy for cancer for the last few months.
In January, she underwent abdominal surgery and subsequent tests resulted in a cancer diagnosis.
A family portrait shared by the princess for Mother's Day in March stirred controversy.
Several photo agencies withdrew the picture over concerns that it had been digitally manipulated. That fed to a frenzy of social media conspiracy theories.
According to CNN, a source revealed that the family wants privacy during these tough times.
“The family were cognisant of the fact that they have asked for privacy during the princess’ recovery, however, on balance, they wanted to share the image on their social media channels as a way to thank those who have sent birthday wishes,” the source told the publication.
Louis was last seen in public during the family’s traditional Christmas Day walk to church alongside his mom on the Sandringham estate.
