Hindustani classical musician Annapurna Devi passes away at 91

A prominent figure in the Indian classical music industry, Annapurna Devi passed away on October 13, 2018, atBreach Candy hospital in Mumbai.

Padma Bhushan awardee Annapurna Devi was in her nineties and wassuffering from age-related issues for many days.

Annapurna Devi was a trained classical musician and was adisciple of her fatherUstad 'Baba' Allauddin Khan, who contributionto Indian music helped to establish the Senia-Maihar Gharana.

President Ram Nath Kovind said, "She was a rare talent and a generous teacher. Her life will always serve as a poignant inspiration for women artistes."

Music directorAR Rahman took to Twitter to condole her death.

Annapurna Devi was married to renowned musician Pandit Ravi Shankar and had a child called Shubhendra Shankar.

She divorced PanditShankarand married Rooshikumar Pandya, who was amanagement consultant who died in 2013.
