A prominent figure in the Indian classical music industry, Annapurna Devi passed away on October 13, 2018, at Breach Candy hospital in Mumbai.

Annapurna Devi was a trained classical musician and was a disciple of her father Ustad 'Baba' Allauddin Khan, who contribution to Indian music helped to establish the Senia-Maihar Gharana. 

President Ram Nath Kovind said, "She was a rare talent and a generous teacher. Her life will always serve as a poignant inspiration for women artistes."

Annapurna Devi was married to renowned musician Pandit Ravi Shankar and had a child called Shubhendra Shankar.

She divorced Pandit Shankar and married Rooshikumar Pandya, who was a management consultant who died in 2013.
