As a tribute to one of greatest actors of his generation, Doordarshan announced the rerun of his first TV serial, Shrikant.
In a tweet, DD wrote, “Watch your favourite #IrrfanKhan in Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s #Shrikant, this afternoon at 3:30 pm on @DDNational.”
‘Shrikant’ was the first time Irrfan Khan made an appearance in front of the camera. It was directed by Pravin Nischol and was based on Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyaya's novel Srikanta.
The series also featured some other big names like Farooq Shaikh, Sujata Mehta, Mrinal Kulkarni, Sukanya Kulkarni, Tiku Talsania, Asha Sharma in pivotal roles.
The show ran between 1985 and 1986, but made very little impact then. It was only later that the show was helmed as a classic.
Irrfan did a few TV shows before getting his big break in films with Mira Nair’s ‘Salaam Bombay’. He was noticed in the film but that was not without some drama. Irrfan was supposed to play a bigger, meatier role but it couldn’t happen when Mira thought he was too tall for the role.
Meanwhile, just today, his wife Sutapa wrote a heartwarming tribute for Irrfan. Read it here. She also shared a moving post with an adorable picture of them yesterday. Check it out here.
