'Boycott IC 814 The Kandhar Hijack' trends on X as netizens lash out at Anubhav Sinha for THIS reason

Anubhav Sinha's IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack has come under fire. Netizens are accusing the film's director, Anubhav Sinha, of "whitewashing" the events of the 1999 hijacking of an Indian Airlines flight by terrorists. Some are even upset because the terrorists' names have been changed in the film.

In reality, the hijackers were reportedly named Ibrahim Athar, Shahid Akhtar Sayed, Sunny, Ahmad Qazi, Zahoor Mistry and Shakir. In the series, the terrorists have codenames which are Bhola, Shankar, Doctor, Burger and Chief.

Slamming the film, a netizen wrote on X, "Can we just simply #BoycottIC814, The Kandahar Hijack? These people are whitewashing in broad daylight. How this is even possible?"

Another wrote, "Names of IC814 Hijackers changed to Shankar & Bhola by @anubhavsinha This is how Bollywood let the TERRORISTS WIN #BoycottBollywood #IC814TheKandaharHijack."

A third added, "This is just not acceptable @MIB_India @MIB_Hindi @AmitShahOffice @PMOIndia This is insulting to the nation at large. The propagandists are the biggest perpetrators of the crime against national security and unity. #BoycottIC814."

IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack revolves around the hijack of Indian Airlines Flight 814 by five armed men in 1999 when it took off from Kathamandu, Nepal, en route New Delhi. The flight was then taken to multiple locations across countries before finally landing in Kandahar, Afghanistan, then-run by the Taliban and the then-refuge of Osama bin Laden.
