BLACKPINK's Jennie makes big moves, signs as solo artist with Columbia Records

BLACKPINK singer Jennie is making moves. The singer and actor has signed as a solo artist with Columbia Records in partnership with her record label and entertainment company Oddatelier. Jennie is set to release her new solo single in October.

Rising to fame with BLACKPINK in 2016, Jennie has been able to get attention for her charming vocals and screen presence. She charted global success as she became the only artist from her country to headline Coachella.

Last year, Jennie piqued everyone’s attention as she collaborated with the Weeknd (Abel) and Lily Rose-Depp on the song “One of the Girls”. She also featured on the HBO series The Idol. In The Idol, Jennie plays a backup singer and dancer to Lily Rose-Depp’s character. The show was surrounded by controversies and was abruptly cut short because of its violent portrayal of sexual activities.

What’s Jennie’s story?

Jennie was born in Korea but was brought up in Auckland,New Zealand. She returned to Korea and joined the entertainment powerhouse YG’s talent academy. The band BLACKPINK was formed in 2016 and became the first music group to gain so much traction.

Jennie was widely loved for her acting. In fact, on a show with Dua Lipa, the K-pop singer said that she loved to explore the world of acting. On The Idol, she said, “I wanted the new acting part of my life to be authentic, rather than just me trying to grab any opportunities that came to me – I really was being patient with with my first ever acting job. This means when I was spending some time in LA last year, I actually got to meet Sam in person and I got to talk to him. And he talked me through the role that he wanted envisioned for me and everything – it really moved my heart.”
