Fame is a tricky affair, Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar will know what this means as he opens up on his citizenship row.

As Indians vote in the ongoing general elections, Akshay Kumar's fans started questioning himon his citizenship after it was revealed that he holds a Canadian passport and thus cannot vote in the country. There are many others like him who can't vote, check out the list here.

The issue gained momentum after the actor interviewed current PM Narendra Modi as part of casual interaction and urged Indians to go and vote. Also, he wasn’t seen with his wife Twinkle Khanna casting his vote as she got inked alone.

Now taking to Twitter, Akshay accepts that he holds a Canadian passport but that he works in India, pays his taxes here and intends to make the country ‘stronger and stronger.’In his post, he wrote, "I really don't understand the unwarranted interest and negativity about my citizenship. I have never hidden or denied that I hold a Canadian passport. It is also equally true that I have not visited Canada in the last seven years. I work in India, and pay all my taxes in India."

"While all these years, I have never needed to prove my love for India to anyone, I find it disappointing that my citizenship issue is constantly dragged into needless controversy, a matter that is personal, legal, non-political, and of no consequences to others."

He further added, "Lastly, I would like to continue contributing in my small way to the causes that I believe in and make India stronger and stronger."
