Team India Victory Parade: Rohit & Co arrive in Mumbai as fans throng Marine Drive

Team India is all set to get a hero’s welcome in the financial capital of India as fans thronged the Marine Drive in Mumbai on Thursday (Jul 4). Rohit Sharma and Co arrived in Mumbai from New Delhi after meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi having ended India’s 17-year drought to win the T20 World Cup in the West Indies on Saturday (Jun 29). Fans were seen ecstatic with banners and cheers in full swing as the players will soon make their way to the Wankhede Stadium in an open-roof bus victory parade.Interestingly, despite the monsoon rains at its peak, there was no shortage of fan support for Team India in Mumbai.

Champions arrive in Mumbai

Havingreturned to India in the wee hours of Thursday (Jul 4), the players visited PM Modi’s residence earlier in the day after which they headed to Mumbai. Rohit and Co had earlier taken a 16-hour flight from Barbados where special arraignments were made. After leaving New Delhi in the afternoon, Rohit Sharma’s men arrived in Mumbai at around 6:00 PM IST and are on their way to the Wankhede Stadium where they will be felicitated by the officials of the Board of Control for Cricket India (BCCI).

At the time of writing, Hardik Pandya and Co deboarded their flight and were on their way out of the airport. Marine Drive on the flip side, which leads to the felicitation venue of Wankhede Stadium was full of fans excited by the return of the champions.

Why is it a special moment for Mumbai?

India beat South Africa in the T20 World Cup final on Saturday (Jun 29)which saw the Men in Blue clinch their fourth World Cup. Having failed to win the ODI World Cup on turf in November 2023, Team India got the missing piece in the puzzle on Saturday after winning by seven runs in a last-over thriller. India had also lost the World Test Championship (WTC) final in London in June 2023, but winning the World Cup under a Mumbaikar was the added taste of joy.
