"Obviously, the majority of players are scared but above all because they have children, babies and family, they might live with their parents," Aguero told Spanish show El Chiringuito TV.

"If we return I am sure everyone will be tense because the minute one person starts to feel ill, it will be 'what's going on there?'."

Players would potentially face weeks away from their families, quarantined in hotels.

"I am hoping that it doesn't come that scenario," said Brighton striker Glenn Murray. "That is far-fetched, to spend eight weeks away from your family is quite a big ask."

Murray also labelled the idea that players could be asked to wear face masks during training sessions as "farcical".

Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville, who owns a stake in League Two side Salford City, is one of many who believes that economic factors are overriding safety considerations.

Mahmood has revealed that it was Rahman who confessed to him that Akram had offered him money to play below par during a match while adding that due to pressure from one of the players, Rahman changed his statement.&nbsp;

Talking to Geo News on Thursday, Mahmood further revealed that Rehman had also submitted an affidavit relating to this matter in the court but was afraid that he would get into trouble if he made a statement in the court.&nbsp;

The former chairman further stated that Atta later suddenly retracted from his statement in court. “I believe one of the players pressurised him to change his statement,” said Khalid.

“Atta-ur-Rehman was afraid that he would get into trouble if he made a statement in court,” said Khalid Mahmood.

The former PCB chairman said that Rahman’s statement on match-fixing against Akram was absolutely true but he denied his own statement in fear.

Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar has landed himself in trouble again after Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) legal advisor Tafazzul Rizvi slapped a criminal and defamation suit against the Rawalpindi Express for his alleged comments against him on a YouTube video.

Rizvi, who is a long-serving legal advisor of PCB, confirmed that he has initiated defamation and a criminal suit against Akhtar while lodging a formal complaint with the Federal Investigation Agency under its cyber-crime laws.&nbsp;

In the legal notice sent to Akhtar, Rizvi highlighted legal charges and punishments awarded to the former fast-bowler throughout his career. He also demanded that he retracts his statements, tenders an unconditional apology, pays PKR 100 million in damages and refrains from repeating and making defamatory remarks against the lawyer in the future.

Akhtar had posted a video following the three-year ban imposed on Umar Akmal for not reporting corrupt approaches but ended up irking the Pakistan Bar Council, which cautioned him to be careful in what he says. The Pakistan Bar Council, in a statement, stated that it was disappointed by the comments made by Akthar towards Rizvi.&nbsp;

Veteran batsman Ross Taylor won New Zealand Cricket's top award for the third time Friday and vowed to bat on until the 2023 World Cup in India.

The 36-year-old was awarded the Sir Richard Hadlee Medal in a virtual ceremony held online because of COVID-19 restrictions.

Taylor was a key part of the Black Caps' run to a second consecutive World Cup final last July, where they lost to England on the back of an obscure boundary countback rule.

In the past 12 months, he also became New Zealand's most prolific Test run-scorer and entered the record books as the first cricketer to play 100 internationals in all three formats.

"It's been an amazing year, it's been full of ups and downs," he said.

After back-to-back defeats in World Cup deciders, Taylor is hoping it's third time lucky as he targets the 2023 tournament to be held in India.

"The biggest thing, I think, is the hunger and the mental motivation to keep getting better, if that's still there then age is just a number," he told reporters.

Taylor said he would remain with the Black Caps as long as he felt he deserved his spot and was contributing to the team.

"I'll see if I can get to (age) 38 or 39, which will be the next World Cup, and we'll see from there," he said.

Taylor made his international debut in 2006 and has since played 101 Tests, 232 one-dayers and 100 T20s.

An ambassador for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar has tested positive for the new coronavirus, the tournament's organisers said on Thursday.

Retired Qatari midfielder Adel Khamis, 54, "was unfortunately diagnosed with the novel coronavirus, COVID-19," the Supreme Committee for the organisation of the 2022 tournament wrote in a tweet.

"We wish a speedy to all those affected."

The number of confirmed infections among those involved in construction for 2022 facilities stands at eight across three stadium projects, but organisers have not given an updated toll since April 17.

Qatar has reported 13,409 cases of COVID-19, 1,372 recoveries and 10 deaths.

Work on Qatar's World Cup stadiums and mega-projects linked to the tournament has continued apace despite tough social distancing rules to stem the spread of coronavirus among the largely migrant workforce.

The supreme committee responsible for delivering the tournament said it "is reviewing the situation on a continuous basis and will take the necessary measures to protect the health and safety of all construction workers and direct staff".

Those measures "may include temporary suspension of work as and when required," it added in a statement.

Khamis is one of the public faces of the 2022 tournament along with fellow ambassadors Tim Cahill of Australia and Barcelona legend Xavi Hernandez.

Construction has continued through the health crisis even as non-essential retail has been halted and mosques, parks and restaurants have closed.

Also, eligibility for the Tournament of Champions, normally limited to event winners from the prior year, will be altered for next year.

Q: When can you see yourself playing for South Africa again?

AB de Villiers: It is a tough question and I don’t have an honest answer yet. What I can share with you guys is that the desire is there from my side. The desire to get me involved with the Proteas have been shown by Cricket South Africa as well. With Mark Boucher as Coach and Graeme Smith as Director, they are keen to get me involved which is very pleasing to hear. I hope everything works out and there a few things that need to fall in place. The most important thing to me is I have to be in the tip-top form and I have to be better than the player next to me. If I deserve a spot in the side it becomes easy for me to feel like I deserve to be in the side and I have earned my spot. I have not been in the Proteas side for a while and I think that is important for myself and for other people as well to see if I am still good enough to play them. Secondly, my fitness and health. Who knows where will I be in 6-12 months’ time with this virus and my desire to play in 12 months’ time I don’t know what is going to happen with the schedule. It is very difficult to lock yourself in 12 months down the line, that I wouldn’t want to do because I know I might sick myself and some other people who rely on me to play. We will see what happens for now. I feel like my desire to play again. I am hungry now to perform I always wanted to play for SA and it has been privilege and honour to wear your country’s badge on your heart hopefully that happens again and I will do everything I can to give myself that opportunity again.

Yes, I had some discussions with Mark Boucher during the Mzansi Super League in SA. We had a lot of fun with the Tshwane Spartans the team that I played for. With Boucher as a coach, I really enjoyed my time there. Boucher is a born leader he is a natural leader. When he speaks you listen because he says the right things at the right time but secondly he backs with 147 test matches for SA a lot of ODIs and a lot of experience playing international cricket. When I listen to him I do feel like there is always something to learn so I really enjoy him as a coach and we started talking about my enjoyment for the game which he could see on my face when I was playing for his team, he asked me where does this come from and why do you have so much energy and why do love the game so much doesn’t it mean you have a story to tell at the international level. I told him I have never closed that book I always wanted to play I had some obstacles to cover in the last 3-4 years from a personal point of view. I always loved playing cricket and always loved hitting the cricket ball there were a lot of other factors involved me not contributing the game as much as I should have. ABD: To be honest not really, but life has changed a lot. To stay in the vicinity of my house we have got a small garden, it’s been frustrating with me being an outdoors person I love outdoors I love my space and freedom. We have discovered that with good strong routine and you really feel like you have got some kind of purpose. I have got a new workout, I have got a small gym in my home where I run a lot on my treadmill and I have the basics when it comes to dumbbells and I have mats to do my floor exercise as well. So I have kept myself busy with that I have got 2 toddlers 3 and 5 yrs old and they have kept me busy. We do a little bit of school that we do online and my wife and I, we work throughout the day with our toddlers and with cooking making some nice food and at night when the kids are off to sleep we have an hour or two to ourselves we watch a bit of TV series that keeps us busy and entertaining. The most important for me and my wife this lockdown has been the health and a good routine.

When I listen to him I do feel like there is always something to learn so I really enjoy him as a coach and we started talking about my enjoyment for the game which he could see on my face when I was playing for his team, he asked me where does this come from and why do you have so much energy and why do love the game so much doesn’t it mean you have a story to tell at the international level. I told him I have never closed that book I always wanted to play I had some obstacles to cover in the last 3-4 years from a personal point of view. "Whilst we are naturally disappointed that we won't get to realise our ambitions this year, the Hundred will go ahead in 2021 when we are safely able to deliver everything we intended to help grow the game."

The ECB's statement stressed that an event with no fans "directly contradicts the competition's goal to attract a broader audience."

Global travel restrictions also mean it is not possible for star players from other countries to take part.

"Our survival as a game, long-term, will be dependent on our ability to recover financially and continue our ambition to build on cricket's growing fan base.&nbsp;

"That need has not gone anyway, if anything, it is now more critical."

Harrison was equally adamant the tournament would be a financial success in the long run.&nbsp;

"The Hundred will create millions in revenues for the game, through hosting fees, hospitality and ticket sales, as well as delivering £25 million in annual financial distributions to all first-class counties and MCC (Marylebone Cricket Club)," he said.&nbsp;

"Its role in driving participation alongside supporting the development of the women's game will be material in generating take-up of our game across country-wide communities."
