Central Reserve Police Force(CRPF) said that three new coronavirus cases were reported in Delhi today with the total number of COVID-19 cases in the forces across the country reaching 254. CRPF said it currently has 248 active cases.

Meanwhile, Mumbai's slum area Dharavi reported 33 new coronavirus cases with two people dying due to the virus today. The total number of COVID-19 cases in the area has now risen 1,061.

Himachal Pradesh health department said that 29 new coronavirus was&nbsp;reported in the last 24 hours.

In Karnataka, 28 new cases coronavirus cases was reported on Wednesday with the total number of cases rising to 987. The state health department said 460 patients have been discharged. Thirty-five people have died due the virus in the state.

Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan said today that 26 coronavirus cases were reported in the state taking the total number of COVID-19 cases to 560 with 64 active cases.

The government has decided to end restrictions in 39 out of 47 prefectures before the May 31 deadline even as new cases have been reported in Tokyo, Osaka and Hokkaido island.

Abe informed that state of emergency would be kept in place in those areas.

"If each of us fails to exercise full vigilance, the future in two weeks time is unpredictable. A second declaration of a state of emergency is possible," PM Abe warned citizens.

Japan has a relatively small number of deaths - 687 in all with just over 16,000 coronavirus cases. On Wednesday, the country reported 55 cases with 10 in capital Tokyo, however, authorities have been under fire for low level of testing.

"As for the 39 prefectures, we were able to contain the spread of infections&nbsp;to the level at which it can be prevented with a thorough cluster-focused approach," the Japan PM said.

Government changes definition of MSMEs; PM Modi says will 'empower entrepreneurs'

India's finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman said today that the financial package announced by PM Modi during his televised address to the nation on Tuesday is meant to spur "growth and build a self-reliant India"&nbsp;as part of "Atmanirbhar Bharat"..&nbsp;

Five pillars of "Atmanirbhar Bharat" include - economy, infrastructure, system, demography and demand, India's finance minister said.

"Self reliant India does not mean cutting off from rest of the world," Sitharaman said&nbsp;while giving details of Rs 20 lakh crore stimulus package.

"We shall not forget that we do have a responsibility towards the poor, needy, the migrant&nbsp;workers,&nbsp;and the aged," the finance minister added.

Major announcements:

-Rs 3 lakh crores collateral-free automatic loans for businesses, including SMEs.&nbsp;

-Borrowers with up Rs 25 crore outstanding and Rs 100 crore turnover are eligible.&nbsp;

-Collateral free automatic loans to MSMEs worth Rs 3 lakh crore. It will have a 4-year tenure&nbsp;valid up to October, 2020.

-Collateral free loan to be provided to SMEs with 12-month moratorium; 45 lakh units to benefit, the finance minister said while unveiling parts of the economic package.

-Rs 20,000 crore subordinate debt will be provided to&nbsp;stressed MSMEs, which is set to&nbsp;benefit 2 lakh businesses.

-Rs 50,000 crore equity infusion through MSME Fund of Funds&nbsp;to provide support to growth potential MSMEs.

-Sitharaman announced Rs 30,000 crore liquidity facility for NBFCs, housing finance companies and MFIs.

-Rs 45,000 crore liquidity to be infused in NBFCs through partial credit guarantee scheme.

For Taxpayers:

-Rs 18,000 cr refunds given to taxpayers; 14 lakh taxpayers benefit from the clearing of refund dues.

Government's financial package: Big relief for MSMEs, Indian taxpayers

India's finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman while unveiling the financial package under&nbsp;"Atmanirbhar Bharat" announced that the government had decided to extend&nbsp;the deadline for filing of income tax returns for 2019-20 fiscal till November 30, 2020.

India's finance minister also announced a number of measures in an effort to boost the economy and protect the MSMEs and taxpayers.

"From tomorrow till March 31, 2021, the TDS/TCS rates have been reduced by 25 per cent of the existing rate... this shall also apply to all payments for contracts, interest, rent, dividend, commission or brokerage.. all of these will be eligible for 25 per cent rate reduction."

"This reduction would release nearly Rs 50,000 crore in the hands of the people who would have otherwise paid it as TDS," Sitharaman said.

Government extends deadline to file income tax returns till November 30

German Chancellor Angela Merkel told the country's Parliament today that her government has "hard evidence that Russian forces" are targeting her in hacking action.

"I can honestly say that it pains me. Every day I try to build a better relationship with Russia and on the other hand, there is such hard evidence that Russian forces are doing this," Merkel told the German Parliament.

Merkel told Parliament that she had concrete proof of the "outrageous" spying attempts by Russia.

The German Chancellor's revelation comes after the country's leading newspaper had reported that Russian military intelligence had obtained Merkel's credentials during a hack on German parliament in 2015 without citing sources.

"Unfortunately the conclusion I have reached is that this is not new," Merkel asserted while saying that "cyber-disorientation, the distortion of facts were all part of Russia's strategy".

"Obviously this doesn't make it easier to foster a better relationship with Moscow," Merkel told lawmakers.

According to a German newspaper, the country had issued an arrest warrant against a suspected Russian military intelligence officer who had allegedly carried out the 2015 hacking.

Amid the hacking allegation, Yevgeny Prigozhin, popularly known as "Putin's chef", said he was "wrongfully persecuted" by the US, which claimed he meddled in 2016 elections after the US Justice Department dropped charges against his company Concord.

Prigozhin vowed to sue the US for $50 billion in damages.

"In first phase of Vande Bharat, we were to bring back 1,4800 Indians on 64 flights. 8,500 Indians have already returned," the minister said, adding,"in phase-2 numbers being doubled. 30,000 more Indians will return from 31 countries on 149 flights."

According to the ministry, in phase 2 of "Vande Bharat" Mission, Indians will be flying back from the US on seven flights starting May 19.

In Delhi, passengers boarded the special train to Bilaspur in Raipur as authorities continued to send migrants home across the country even as a Railway official said special Shramik trains will now run from Old Delhi Railway Station with three trains set to leave for Bihar's Bhagalpur, Darbhanga and Barauni.

A special train carrying passengers from West Bengal reached Delhi today as services continued to run to ensure people got back to their respective states.

Vande Bharat: Indians to fly back home from US on May 19

Maharashtra on Monday reported 1,230 new<a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/mumbais-dharavi-slum-reports-57-new-coronavirus-cases-916-total-cases-298076"> coronavirus</a> cases with 36 deaths in the last 24 hours taking the death toll to 868 in the state.

There are now 23,401 cases of COVID-19 in the state, Maharashtra's health department said.

In Greater Mumbai, 791 new coronavirus cases were reported with 20 deaths in the last 24 hours taking the death toll to 528 in the area. The area has now recorded 14,355 cases of the virus.

As the number of cases spiraled in the state, Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray requested for central forces during his video conference with India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi while asserting that "police are under heavy pressure and their personnel are also getting infected."

In Uttar Pradesh, 109 more cases surfaced on Monday taking the number of cases in the state to 3,573 which includes 80 deaths.

Five people died in West Bengal with 124 new cases being reported in the state. The total number of coronavirus cases in the state has now risen to 2063.

In Jharkhand, 161 cases have been reported with 80 active cases, the state health department said.

India's national capital recorded no new containment zone with the number of zones totalling 81.

Gujarat too recorded a spurt in cases with 347 new cases taking the number of cases to 8,542. Five hundred and thirteen people have died due to the virus in the state.
