The researchers for the first time have created a continent-wide map of Antarctica for studying the rampant changes in its ecosystem and spreading plant life.

Antarctica has always been expected to be all white with huge icebergs, however, what is shocking is the greens emerging from the mini pockets of the ice-covered land.

Amid warming temperatures and climate change, the ice-covered continent is undergoing a major transformation and is likely to now witness the growth of more vegetation.

The search for green patches in Antarctica was carried out by an international team of scientists, headed by the University of Edinburgh with the British Antarctic Survey (BAS), the Scottish Association for Marine Science and the Norwegian Institute for Nature Research, with the help of the satellite data from the European Space Agency (ESA).

Here's what the scientists found in Antarctica

In the study, the scientists detected nearly 45 square kilometres (17.3 square miles) of vegetation and nearly 80 per cent of them were located in the Antarctic Peninsula and neighbouring islands. The green space in Antarctica is only just 0.12 per cent.

“Our continent-scale map provides key information on vegetation presence in areas that are rarely visited by people. This will have profound implications for our understanding of where vegetation is located across the continent, and what factors influence this distribution,” said Charlotte Walshaw, who is a PhD researcher from the University of Edinburgh, in a statement.

The plant life is not able to spread easily in Antarctica's harsh wilderness. But the shifting landscapes and warming temperatures are now making it easier for plant life to spread across the continent.

Only two vascular plants are the continent's native which are Antarctic hair grass and Antarctic pearlwort.

In an interesting study, a job interview question has been found to have the potential to detect liars and Tesla CEO Elon Musk has also been using this question.

In 2017, Musk said that he had posed the same interview question to all his candidates. The question is "Tell me about some of the most difficult problems you worked on and how you solved them."

He had claimed that this question helped him in catching the liars and now a study has backed his method.

The question falls under the 'Asymmetric Information Management' (AIM) interview technique which has been designed to provide interviewee with a way to demonstrate they are speaking the truth by telling in detail about their experience.

In the study, which was published in the Journal of Applied Research in Memory and Cognition, different ways for spotting liars with the help of the job interviewing technique have been explained.

What answer determines if the candidate is telling the truth?

If the applicant answers the open-ended question of Musk with a specific and detailed response, it is most likely they are telling the truth.

"Small details are the lifeblood of forensic investigations and can provide investigators with facts to check and witnesses to question," said Cody Porter, who is one of the authors of the study, in an article.

"If they provide longer, more detailed statements about the event of interest, then the investigator will be better able to detect if they are telling the truth or lying. In contrast, liars wish to conceal their guilt," explained Porter.

The hiring process of Musk is very unique. He does not look for a college and even does not ask for a high school diploma, but he looks for "evidence of exceptional ability" while hiring new staff.

Watch: China proposes information superhighway between Earth and Moon Even though many of the NEOs don't come very near to Earth, some of them do come at a scary distance and get tagged as potentially hazardous asteroids which need more attention. Such asteroids are more than 460 feet (140 metres) in size and their orbits bring them within a distance of 7.5 million kilometres from Earth. NASA's Center for Near-Earth Object Studies (CNEOS) has been monitoring all the NEOs and looking for any potential impact risks. (With inputs from agencies)

A new research has made an astonishing discovery of the mysterious acidic zone expanding rapidly at 13,000 feet (4,000 metres) below the ocean surface which is likely to have a severe impact on some parts of the Earth.

The acidic zone, which is also known as the carbonate compensation depth, is present in the deepest parts of the ocean and has low temperatures combined with high pressure.

The zone is known to create conditions which dissolve calcium carbonate - the material that is used for creating shells by marine animals.

However, this theory stands in contrast with the idea that ocean acidification of surface water happens because the carbon dioxide released from the burning of fossil fuels is absorbed by the oceans.

The researchers argue that the two theories are linked as the increase in the carbon dioxide concentrations in the ocean decreases the water body's pH and increases the rate at which calcium carbonate dissolves in the deep-sea area.
