<p>In a unanimous decision, the Kerala Legislative Assembly on Monday (June 24)&nbsp;passed a resolution proposing a constitutional amendment to change the state's official name from 'Kerala' to 'Keralam'.</p>

<p>The resolution, moved by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, calls for invoking Article 3 of the Indian Constitution to effectuate this change in the First Schedule.</p>

<p>This is the second time the assembly has passed such a resolution, after the previous one sent to the central government last year faced some technical objections.</p>

<p>Vijayan highlighted that despite 'Keralam' being the commonly used name for the state in the Malayalam language, the official records continue to refer to it as 'Kerala'.</p>

Kerala Assembly passes resolution to officially change state's name to 'Keralam'

<p>British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has withdrawn Conservative Party support for two parliamentary candidates who are under investigation by the Gambling Commission over allegations of betting on the date of the upcoming general election.</p>

<p>The two candidates, Craig Williams from Montgomeryshire and Glyndwr, and Laura Saunders from Bristol North West, are facing scrutiny, for potentially using confidential information to place bets on the election date.</p>

<p>The Labour Party has also suspended one of its general election candidates. Kevin Craig, Labour's candidate for the Central Suffolk and North Ipswich constituency, has been "administratively" suspended by the party pending the outcome of the Gambling Commission's probe.</p>

<p>The Conservative party said, “As a result of ongoing internal inquiries, we have concluded that we can no longer support Craig Williams or Laura Saunders as parliamentary candidates at the forthcoming general election."</p>

<p>“We have checked with the Gambling Commission that this decision does not compromise the investigation that they are conducting, which is rightly independent and ongoing.”</p>

<p>As the nomination process has already concluded, the two candidates will still be listed on the ballot papers as representing the Conservative Party. However, they no longer have the official backing and endorsement of the party leadership.</p>

<p>Sunak confirmed that the party is conducting internal inquiries alongside the Commission's investigation, but stated he is "not aware of any other" Conservative candidates being probed. The prime minister said that he would take action based on the findings and cooperate fully with the regulators.</p>

<p>The controversy arose when one of Sunak's close aides, Craig Williams, allegedly placed a bet on a July polling day before it was announced.</p>

<p>Indian Ministry of Mines has cancelled the auction of 14 out of 18 critical mineral blocks that were put up for sale in the second tranche of auctions.</p>

<p>According to a notice issued by the ministry on June 21, the auction process for five blocks located in Arunachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan was annulled as no bids were received. These blocks had minerals such as vanadium, graphite, chromium, and potash.</p>

<p>In addition to this, the auction process for nine other blocks, including those with deposits of tungsten, limestone, and cobalt, was also cancelled as the number of bids received was fewer than the minimum requirement of three.</p>

<p>These blocks were spread across the states of Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Arunachal Pradesh. The sale of these mineral blocks is part of the government's ambitious $362 billion initiative launched in February to promote the exploration and development of critical minerals.</p>

<p>The Kalaburagi airport received a bomb threat via email on Monday which turned out to be a hoax after a thorough search operation, police said. Bomb disposal and dog squads were immediately pressed into action on the airport premises, they said.</p>

<p>Kalaburagi Police Commissioner Chethan R told PTI that the Airport Director Chilaka Mahesh received an email from an anonymous ID Monday (June 24) morning claiming that explosives have been planted inside the airport premises.</p>

<p>"As soon as we received information about a bomb threat email at Kalaburagi domestic airport, a bomb disposal squad was dispatched. All the passengers on the flight (which landed from Bengaluru) were de-boarded," Chethan said.</p>
