Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India, today announced the launch of India's first hydrogen highways during Day 2 of the inaugural World Hydrogen India, organized by S&P Global Commodity Insights. Virtually addressing a gathering of global industry leaders, policymakers, and energy experts, Gadkari outlined India's vision to achieve self-reliance in fuel and transform agriculture into an energy powerhouse. Highlighting the urgency of reducing India's dependence on crude imports, currently at 87 per cent of demand and costing the nation nearly Rs 22 lakh crore annually, he said: "Hydrogen is the fuel of the future. We have now launched the world's first large-scale hydrogen truck trials. A budgetary allocation of Rs 500 crore has been sanctioned to five consortiums across ten routes, with 37 vehicles participating. Industry partners include Tata Motors, Ashok Leyland, Volvo, BPCL, IOCL, NTPC and Reliance. Nine hydrogen refuelling stations will be established to support these trials. These corridors will serve as India's first hydrogen highways, creating the ecosystem for clean, long-haul mobility," he said. The trials will run for two years across key routes including Greater Noida, Delhi, Agra, Bhubaneswar, Konark, Puri, Vadodara, Surat, Sahibabad, Faridabad, Pune, Mumbai, Jamshedpur, Kalinga, Thiruvananthapuram, Jamnagar, Ahmedabad Kochi, Vishakhapatnam which will link industry clusters, ports and freight corridors where hydrogen can make an immediate impact. He emphasized that the project's scope extends beyond vehicles, covering the entire hydrogen value chain, compression, storage, transport, and refuelling infrastructure. Underscoring the broader national ambition, the Minister said India's target is to produce 5 million tons of green hydrogen annually by 2030, generating 6 lakh jobs and attracting Rs 8 lakh crore in investment. This transition is expected to cut fossil fuel imports by Rs 1 lakh crore per year and reduce CO2 emissions by 3.6 gigatons by 2050, equivalent to planting over 1,000 crore trees. "India will be a manufacturer, an innovator, and an exporter. We will convert agriculture into energy, secure our fuel supplies, create jobs, and cut emissions all at once. This is India's moment to lead in clean fuels," he concluded. Adding a macroeconomic perspective, Amitabh Kant, Former CEO of NITI Aayog, underscored that India's growth journey to becoming a USD 30 trillion economy by 2047 must be anchored in sustainability. "Green hydrogen is not just an energy story, it is about jobs, exports, manufacturing, competitiveness, and climate leadership. If anything can decarbonize hard-to-abate sectors like cement, shipping, aviation, and long-haul transport, only green hydrogen can. India is climatically blessed and uniquely placed to lead this global race," Kant said. He highlighted India's five distinct advantages: the world's cheapest renewable energy, clear government policy, a strong industrial base, large domestic demand, and powerful export opportunities to markets like Japan and Europe. Kant called for government-to-government agreements, local electrolyser manufacturing, global marketing of India's green hydrogen story, large-scale skilling initiatives, and world-class regulation to make India the global hub of hydrogen.

The Court observed that once material is uploaded on the internet, generative AI models can pick it up regardless of its authenticity. While noting that specific URLs, 14 identified so far, can be directed to be taken down, Justice Karia also remarked on the broader question of how long such injunctions can reasonably continue, given the enduring fame of public figures. Appearing for the actor, Advocate Pravin Anand submitted that Nagarjuna, with 95 films to his credit and two national awards, enjoys a formidable reputation in the Telugu film industry. Also read: Pawan Kalyan's OG: Police STOP fan gathering organised without permission Widely referred to as a "celluloid scientist" for his versatility, he is also celebrated for his role in Shiva, which Anand said changed the course of Indian cinema. The actor's large online presence, over six million followers on X and more than eight million on Facebook, was also highlighted. In line with its efforts to protect celebrity rights in the online space, the Delhi High Court restrained various websites and platforms from violating the publicity and personality rights of Bollywood actors Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan and Karan Johar. It prohibited the respondents from misusing their names, images, voices, acronyms, likenesses, or any attributes uniquely identifiable with them.

India's Chief Economic Advisor (CEA) V Anantha Nageswaran on Monday said that the recently implemented GST 2.0 reforms, coupled with income tax relief announced in the Union Budget, will have a multiplier effect on the economy, pushing FY26 growth towards the upper end of the 6.3 to 6.8 per cent range. Speaking at the Network18 Reforms Reloaded 2025 summit in Delhi, Nageswaran said, “The GST 2.0 is a very significant landmark reform. I am very confident that it will provide a very significant boost to domestic demand. In addition to the indirect taxes, there are concessions and relief announced as part of the Union Budget. Taking a multiplier effect, these will quite definitely boost the GDP numbers.” Nageshwaran noted that the combined impact of direct tax relief through income tax cuts and indirect tax relief through GST rate reductions will be over Rs 2.5 lakh crore. He, however, added that some other uncertainties may dilute the effect. On concerns over the revenue impact of GST rate cuts on states, the CEA said experience shows that despite rate reductions, collections have risen. "Despite prior rate cuts, the annual revenue collections of these states have gone higher up over the years," he said. The CEA also expressed confidence in achieving a gross fiscal deficit target of 4.4 per cent of GDP in FY26. "We had good non-tax revenue growth. Overall revenue growth has been on track. The festival season will continue till the end of the year. We are confident that the fiscal math will hold very well for the current financial year," he said. On quarterly growth, the CEA indicated that India's Q2 GDP may remain close to 7 per cent, supported by high-frequency indicators. "The impact of US tariffs may be muted in the current year, but that will be compensated by GST rate reductions," he noted. Addressing concerns over US President Donald Trump's tariff measures, Nageswaran said that while India's growth was expected to face a 0.4-0.5 per cent reduction this year and around 1 per cent next year, GST reforms could cushion the blow. "But now due to GST reforms, the impact may be lower," he added. Looking ahead, the CEA underlined that medium-to-long-term foreign direct investment (FDI) flows into India will not be hampered. "In the medium to long term, FDI will not be impacted. GST and deregulation may act as catalysts for higher FDI. Even with additional tariffs, the medium to long-term investment attractiveness of India will not be impacted," noted Nageswaran.

Patna: Congratulating the Union government over the GST reforms, BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad on Monday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi believes in 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas'.The GST 2.0 reforms, which the Union Government approved on September 4, have been implemented from Monday. Under the revised structure, the previous four-tier GST slabs have been consolidated into two main categories: 5 per cent and 18 per cent. Items that were earlier taxed at 12 per cent have been brought down to 5 per cent, while those in the 28 per cent category have been rationalised to 18 per cent. Essential commodities and daily-use items are now taxed at the lowest rate, making them more affordable for households. "More than 200 commodities will get cheaper. I congratulate PM Modi. His government thinks about 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas' and the Bihar government does the same," Prasad told reporters. The reform in the Goods and Services Tax structure, which was approved during the 56th meeting of the GST Council earlier this month, is set to come into effect from today. The current four-rate system will be replaced with a streamlined two-slab regime of 5% and 18%. A separate 40 per cent slab has been retained for luxury and sin goods. This new framework is expected to ease compliance, reduce consumer prices, boost manufacturing, and support a wide range of industries, from agriculture to automobiles and from FMCG to renewable energy. It is intended to lower the cost of living, strengthen MSMEs, widen the tax base, and drive inclusive growth. In the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) and dairy sector, major brands like Amul and Mother Dairy have announced substantial price cuts, reflecting the full benefit of the GST reduction. Items like milk, butter, ghee, paneer, cheese, ice cream, snacks, and frozen foods have been brought under the 5 per cent slab, due to which 100 g of Amul butter will now cost Rs 58 instead of Rs 62, and Ultra High Temperature milk (UHT) has dropped to Rs 75 per litre from Rs 77. Mother Dairy has also slashed prices on milkshakes, paneer, ghee, and frozen products.

Marcos instructed the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) and its 44 member agencies to remain on full alert until Nando exits the Philippine Area of Responsibility, the Philippine news agency said. The state media also reported that 70 tourists remain stranded after Philippine Airlines suspended all flights to and from the island until September 23. Local officials are coordinating with the Philippine Air Force for possible C-130 flights if commercial operations remain grounded, it said. At least eight evacuation centres have been opened, currently hosting 165 families or 497 persons Taiwan's Central Weather Administration (CWA) also issued a sea warning for the storm at 11 am (local time), with a specialist of the agency stating that Ragasa's winds could intensify to 208.8 kph and its storm radius may expand, as per a report in Focus Taiwan. The Taiwanese news outlet said that at present, the storm is projected to travel west through the Bashi Channel and hit the southern Chinese coast southwest of Macau. It will likely have the greatest impact on Taiwan on Monday and Tuesday, with the storm circle forecast to reach the Hengchun Peninsula on Monday afternoon, Focus Taiwan reported. Meanwhile, strong typhoon Neoguri in the northwest Pacific reached the waters near Tokyo's Minamitorishima Island, Japan's easternmost island, at noon on Sunday, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency. Also known as Typhoon No 19, 'Neoguri' was moving west-northwest at 20 kph at noon. Neoguri is expected to remain largely stationary over the waters east of Japan after Tuesday.

New Delhi: The Department of Consumer Affairs, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, has issued a revised advisory in view of the revision of GST rates effective from September 22, 2025. Using powers under Rule 33 of the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011, the Central Government has granted relaxations to reduce compliance burden on industry while ensuring that the benefit of reduced GST is passed on to consumers, a press release said. As per the advisory, manufacturers, packers, and importers may voluntarily affix additional revised price stickers on unsold packages manufactured before 22nd September 2025, provided that the original MRP printed on the package is not obscured. It has been clarified that the Rules do not mandate such re-stickering, and it is purely optional for companies that wish to declare revised prices. Further, the requirement under Rule 18(3) to publish revised MRPs in two newspapers has been waived. Instead, manufacturers and importers will now only be required to circulate revised price lists to wholesale dealers and retailers, with copies endorsed to the Director, Legal Metrology in Central Government and Controllers of Legal Metrology in States/UTs. This will simplify compliance and reduce procedural burden for the industry. The advisory also permits the use of old packaging material or wrappers printed before the GST revision, up to March 31, 2026, or until such stock is exhausted, whichever is earlier. Companies can correct the MRP on such packaging by stamping, stickering, or online printing at any suitable place on the package. In addition, the Government has advised the manufacturers, packers, and importers to take proactive steps to inform dealers, retailers, and consumers about the revised GST rates. They have been encouraged to use all possible communication channels, including electronic, print, and social media, to ensure consumer awareness. This step strikes a balance between ease of doing business and consumer protection, ensuring that industries are not overburdened with compliance while consumers receive the intended benefit of GST reduction.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has urged a foreign observation mission to make public its findings on the 2024 general elections, insisting that the document exposes "systemic rigging, institutional bias, and deliberate targeting of the Imran-Khan-led party and its founder," local publication Dawn reported. The call followed a report by the independent outlet Drop Site News, which alleged that the Commonwealth Observer Group (COG) had "buried their report" after identifying widespread irregularities in the February 8 polls. While the COG's assessment has yet to be formally published, some media organisations claimed to have accessed leaked versions, according to Dawn. In a statement released on Sunday, the COG acknowledged awareness of an online version of its report but stressed that it does not comment on leaked material. "The government and the Election Commission of Pakistan have already received the report. The full report, as we had communicated earlier, will be released later this month, along with a number of COG reports currently in the publication pipeline," it said. The mission underlined that its work is "carried out free from any interference." The delay has raised concerns, as election observation missions usually issue their findings within days or weeks of polling. The COG, while announcing its preliminary observations on February 10, 2024, had said its recommendations would be submitted to the Commonwealth secretary general before being shared with Islamabad and then made public. According to an excerpt from the leaked copy -- whose authenticity could not be independently verified by Dawn -- the report noted: "Despite the fact that early vote counts indicated a landslide victory for candidates aligned with... the banned PTI... saw their polling leads rapidly reversed..." Reacting to the controversy, PTI Central Information Secretary Sheikh Waqqas Akram said the leaked document reinforced the party's stance. "The leaked report validated PTI's longstanding reservations about widespread pre- and post-poll rigging," Dawn quoted him as saying. Former aide to ex-prime minister Imran Khan, Zulfi Bukhari, also raised questions over the delay. "Tomorrow, I will be consulting legal counsel to initiate proceedings aimed at securing disclosure, both of the report itself in full and of the decision-making processes that led to its suppression," he wrote on X.
