Recently, Gail Mattson, an 80-year-old woman from Minnesota, succumbed to critical injuries after being attacked by an elephant in the Kafue National Park in Zambia.

Her son, Blake Vetter said that he would neither hold the animal nor the driver responsible for his mother's death and that his mon would be the first to defend the driver and the elephant had she been alive.

US tourist succumbs to injuries after elephant attack in Africa, son defends animal

Lawyers of inmates at New York state's Woodbourne Correctional Facility recently sued the department over its decision to lock down prisons during a total solar eclipse event on Monday (Apr 8). Now, they will watch the celestial event after all, the lawyers said.&nbsp;

The United States and its allies view a ceasefire as essential to allowing more humanitarian aid to get into Gaza amid fears of famine among the Palestinians there.

Under the most recent proposal, Israel and Hamas would agree to a six-week ceasefire in exchange for the release of sick, elderly and wounded hostages held by Hamas. Progress on a deal has been stalled for weeks.

"This basic fact remains true: There would be a ceasefire in Gaza today had Hamas simply agreed to release this vulnerable category of hostages – the sick, wounded, elderly, and young women," the senior Biden official said.

"The onus is on Hamas to release the hostages and bring relief to the people of Gaza through a prolonged ceasefire," the official said.

White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan will meet the families of the hostages at the White House on Monday, the official said.

The local prosecutor’s office said a nine-year-old boy was among those wounded, and four people were hospitalised in grave condition.

“What marks today’s strikes: first, there were two missile strikes, and then, about 40 minutes later, there were other strikes at the same place - just as rescuers, police started working,” said Governor of Zaporizhzhia, Ivan Fedorov, on national TV, as quoted by Reuters.&nbsp;

He also said that at least three apartment blocks, 10 private houses, shops and an unidentified industrial facility were damaged due to the attack.&nbsp;

Ukraine’s air force issued a ballistic missile raid alert for the region, a part of which is occupied by Russia, as per Reuters.&nbsp;

Ukraine on the other hand attacked the Morozovsk military air base in Russia’s Rostov region and destroyed six Russian warplanes, a Ukrainian intelligence source told Reuters on Friday (Apr 5).&nbsp;

The operation was&nbsp;jointly conducted by the Ukrainian military and the SBU security service, according to the news agency.&nbsp;

The Russian airbase that was reportedly attacked had been used by Moscow’s tactical bombers including Sukhoi Su-24 and Su-24M which are being used to fire guided bombs at the Ukrainian military and frontline towns and cities amid the ongoing war.&nbsp;

The source also told Reuters that the planes used at the base were Su-27 and Su-34 aircraft and described the operation as an important one.&nbsp;

Speaking during the event, Biden retold an anecdote about a conversation he had with President Xi, where the Chinese premier asked him to define America.

"I was once asked by Xi Jinping, and I travelled 17,000 miles with him — I was out at the Tibetan plateau. He looked at me, and he said, 'can you define America?' I could say the same thing if he asked me to define Greece."

"I said, 'yes…one word' and I mean this sincerely, it's recorded, I said, 'possibilities'."

This claim has earned Biden a 'bottomless Pinocchio' rating from the Washington Post due to its repeated use.

Most recently it is fueled by the Israeli strike in Gaza which resulted in the deaths of seven aid workers, including one American from the World Central Kitchen charity.

Amid this, the leaders of the two nations held their first interaction since the strike on aid workers. The conversation, which comes at a time when Israel is preparing to enter Rafah and has finalised its operational plans, started at&nbsp;11:45 ET (9:15 IST), as per an Israeli official, media reports said.&nbsp;

Notably,&nbsp;the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva on Friday (Apr 4) is set to deliberate on a draft resolution advocating for a weapons embargo on Israel. The council will also push for a condemnation of “the use of starvation of civilians as a method of warfare”.

This comes as Israeli officials continue to maintain that the strike was unintentional.

This unprecedented step was taken by Israel hours after United States President Joe Biden's 30-minute conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the wake of the killing of the World Central Kitchen's seven aid workers in Gaza which has led to an international fury over Israel's actions.&nbsp;

The opening of three aid corridors was requested by President Biden in the conversation and approved by the Israeli government, CBS News reported earlier.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken, speaking after the call in Brussels, cleared the stance of the United States.&nbsp;“If we don’t see the changes that we need to see, there’ll be changes in our own policy,” Blinken said.&nbsp;

The United States isn't going to walk away from helping Israel defend itself.
