Going head-to-head, Trump and Biden emerged victorious in their respective party presidential primaries in West Virginia.

While&nbsp;Joe Biden won all 20 Democrat delegates with 67,064 votes (70.6 per cent), Donald Trump, with 195,069 votes (88.3 per cent) votes, gained all 32 Republican delegates.

Donald Trump has also won the Nebraska Presidential Primary Election. With over 164,817 or around 80.2 per cent votes, he was allocated 36 of 36 delegates. In second place is Nikki Haley, who received 36,872 or 17.9 per cent votes.

According to a post on X by Eastern European media NEXTA, citing local sources, the Prime Minister was reportedly shot multiple times.

"One to the abdomen, one to the head. He's in serious condition," NEXTA said in the post.&nbsp;EU chief Ursula von der Leyen denounced the "vile attack" on Robert Fico.

"I strongly condemn the vile attack on Prime Minister Robert Fico. Such acts of violence have no place in our society and undermine democracy, our most precious common good. My thoughts are with PM Fico, his family," von der Leyen said on X.

Yemen's Houthi rebels on Wednesday (May 15) claimed to have targeted a US Navy destroyer and a commercial ship in the Red Sea. The group said that they had targeted a warship and a vessel called 'Destiny'.&nbsp;

The Houthis' military spokesman Yahya Sarea said in a televised speech that they had targeted an American destroyer called 'Maysun'&nbsp;in the Red Sea with a number of 'appropriate naval missiles'.&nbsp;

Sarea also added that Houthis targeted the vessel 'Destiny' because it had been en route to the Israeli port of Eilat on April 20.&nbsp;

He did not specify the dates when the two ships were targeted, but a report by the news agency The Associated Press mentioned that the attack happened nearly two days earlier.&nbsp;

Such attacks have been happening in the aftermath of the Israel-Hamas war, which started on October 7. Months of Houthi attacks in the Red Sea have hampered global shipping.&nbsp;

The attacks have also forced companies to reroute to longer and more expensive voyages around southern Africa, and fuelled fears that the Israel-Hamas conflict may destabilise the entire West Asia.&nbsp;

The US Maritime Administration said that the Houthis have launched more than 50 attacks on shipping, seized one vessel and sunk another since November.&nbsp;

Dubai is where dubious individuals, from "alleged money launderers and drug lords, to political figures accused of corruption and businessmen sanctioned for financing terrorism," all clean their cash through real estate.

<h2>Dubai: A crossroads of commerce and criminals?</h2>

Dubai, which "has long served as a crossroads for commerce" has now "become a meeting point for men and women from around the globe who have been accused of criminality and corruption."

As per the report "for those looking to launder or hide cash" Dubai, which has a reputation for financial secrecy, low taxes, and an ever-expanding spread of valuable real estate, is an appealing option.

However, it adds that Dubai is far from the only city that attracts criminals looking to stash their wealth.&nbsp;

"New York City and London real estate have also been known to attract dirty money," says the report.

<h2>But, why Dubai?</h2>

According to experts interviewed by OCCRP, several factors contribute to Dubai's appeal as a place to stash wealth, "particularly for those who are thwarted by sanctions from owning property in Western democracies, or are on the run from law enforcement".

One major factor, it says, is the "emirate's inconsistent responses to requests from foreign authorities for help arresting and extraditing fugitives."

According to Radha Stirling, an attorney and human rights advocate leading the legal assistance organisation 'Detained in Dubai,' UAE authorities use high-profile fugitives as "bargaining chips."

"The presence of extradition agreements between nations are not necessarily key to whether or not people are extradited," said Stirling.

According to Sauod Abdulaziz Almutawa, an officer from Dubai police’s anti-money laundering department, "What matters is what Dubai wants in return and whether that nation has something they want enough to barter."

Emirate's justice system, as per Jodi Vittori, a Georgetown University professor studying corruption and illicit finance, is 'a black hole'.

"It is unclear why the UAE will work with some law enforcement in some cases to arrest criminals located in the UAE and in other cases, they do not," she told OCCRP adding, "In many ways, the UAE is a law enforcement black hole."

'Part of American life': After TikTok, eight TikTokers sue US government over potential ban

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has been reportedly shot in Handlova, a town in the central part of the country, as he was leaving from a building after attending a meeting. A government meeting was held in the building earlier, said reports. Journalists at the scene report that several shots were fired.

As per reports, several shots were heard before the PM's security detail bundled him into a nearby car. He was airlifted by helicopter to a nearby hospital and was later flown to another hospital in Banska Bystrica, east of Handlova, reports say.&nbsp;

Politico reported the PM was shot in the chest and also sustained injuries to his head. People present at the spot saw the PM falling to the ground.

Slovak government in a statement to WION said the PM was in a 'life-threatening condition.'

"The PM is currently being transported by helicopter to Banská Bystrica in a life-threatening condition," the statement read.

According to local media reports, the PM was first rushed to a security car and then airlifted by a helicopter to a nearby hospital.

Fico reclaimed the PM seat in the last September elections, and leads a populist-nationalist coalition.

He has also attracted controversial media coverage for his pro-Russia comments and efforts to expand control over state media.

Reacting to the news,&nbsp;Slovakia's outgoing president Zuzana Caputova said she was shocked by the "brutal and ruthless" attack and wished him strength to recover.

Michal Šimečka, an opposition leader, said he was “shocked and appalled” by the shooting.

“We unequivocally and strongly condemn any violence. We trust that Prime Minister Fico will be fine and that this terrible act will be brought to light as soon as possible,” Šimečka also said on X.

Thousands of people have been ordered to evacuate in four suburbs around the Canadian oil sands city of Fort McMurray due to a large wildfire that is reportedly approaching the region.

The wildfire, raging due to tinder-dry conditions and high winds, remains a persistent threat for the city in western Canada's Alberta since last week. The fire is just 13 km or 8 miles away to the south- west.

Alberta Wildfire Information Officer Josee St-Onge said the blaze grew significantly on Tuesday (May 14) and added that the winds from the southwest were going as high as 40 km/hr (24.8 mph).

"Unfortunately, these are not favourable winds for us and the fire will continue to advance towards the town until we see a wind shift," she told an online media briefing.

"We are seeing extreme fire behavior. Smoke columns are developing and the skies are covered in smoke... firefighters have been pulled from the fire line for safety reasons."

The fire has grown in size and is now more than 10,000 hectares (25,000 acres), officials said.

<h2>Canada wildfire: Evacuation orders for these suburbs</h2>

The local authority said in a statement that residents in the suburbs of Abasand, Beacon Hill, Prairie Creek and Grayling had to leave by 4 pm Mountain Time (2200 GMT).

Earlier in 2016, a huge wildfire in Fort McMurray forced the evacuation of 90,000 residents and shut in more than a million barrels per day of oil output.

Besides, people in other parts of Fort McMurray who did not face evacuation orders, too began to leave, Canadian media reports say.&nbsp;

Officials claim that Fort McMurray is better prepared to fight the fire than it was in 2016.&nbsp;
