US presidential debate: Trump won but how badly did Biden lose?

Maldives State Minister at the Environment Ministry, Fathimath Shammaz Ali Saleem, along with her ex-husband Adam Rameez and two others, was on Thursday (June 27) arrested for allegedly performing black magic on President Mohamed Muizzu.

Rameez was serving as a minister at the President's Office.

"Shamnaz, alongside two other individuals, was arrested on Sunday. All three of them have been remanded in custody for seven days. She was suspended from her post on Wednesday as per the Environment Ministry," reported news portal&nbsp;Maldives' Sun, further stating that the government has also suspended Rameez along with Shamnaz.

Both Shamnaz and Rameez had earlier worked as members of the Male City Council with Muizzu when he held the position of the city's mayor.

As reported by Maldives-based Sun, Shamnaz was earlier listed as a political appointee on the website of the environment ministry and now has been shifted to the list of former political appointees.

As the environment minister, Shammaz had played an important role in the issue of climate crisis on the international front.

Earlier,&nbsp;Shamnaz had served as a member of the City Council in Male with President Muizzu, when he was serving as the mayor of the city, Maldives' Sun reported.

The mayor of Yauca, Juan Aranguren, told local media that walls came down in his town.

A major highway running through the area also suffered cracks, he said.&nbsp;

"The children were crying, the earthquake was felt strongly," said a villager from the area.&nbsp;

Speaking to RPP radio, Prime Minister Gustavo Adrianzen: "I want to convey tranquility. The earthquake has passed, we are making the first evaluations, and so far there are no fatalities to lament."

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre had earlier said "hazardous tsunami waves are forecast for some coasts" but later said the threat had passed.&nbsp;

Speaking to NBC News, a Democratic lawmaker said, "The best thing I can do to help Joe Biden is to pretend I didn’t get your text."

As the debate came closer to its end, Democrats wondered if the ticket should be led by Biden or someone else.

A veteran operative, speaking to CNN, said, "It's hard to argue that Biden should be our nominee."

In an attempt to reassure Democrats, Vice President Kamala Harris said that Biden had a "slow start" but emphasised his strong finish in the debate.

Ahead of the voting, some Iranian citizens raised concerns about the state of country's economy which is still reeling under US sanctions despite Tehran's bettering financial partnerships with Moscow, Central Asian capitals, Islamabad and New Delhi.&nbsp;

Speaking from Tehran's Tajrish market, Mohammed Mehdi, a student, hoped for a better state of higher education after Friday's polls. "The cost of education is my challenge as a student as it has gone rapidly up. The ease of access to higher education is what I expect which would eventually lead to a better economic situation," Mehdi told WION.&nbsp;

Ali Akbar Hosseini, a street vendor, favoured parliamentary speaker Bagher Ghalibaf in the polls because they come from the same town: Torqabeh, near Mashhad, in the province of Razavi Khorasan over 900 km east of Tehran.&nbsp;

"I just feel its necessary for all of us to vote. My duty is to vote. People should do something to address their problems by voting and not leave everything to the government," Hosseini told WION.&nbsp;
