Hurricane Beryl made landfall in Texas on Monday (Jul 8); bringing rainfall flooding, storm surge and damaging winds to the region. More than 1.5 million people were left without power in the state as the hurricane disrupted normal lives.

According to the National Hurricane Center (NHC), Beryl’s greatest intensification occurred just ahead of the landfall. It was expected to move northward, where it will transition into a post-tropical cyclone.

A flood warning has been issued for the entire Texas coastline, along with parts of Louisiana. A storm surge is also expected to cause deluge in coastal areas and sweep upstream into Galveston Bay and beyond, reaching the city of Houston.&nbsp;

Dan Patrick, the state’s lieutenant governor, said: “One of the things that kind of triggers our concern a little bit, we’ve looked at all of the roads leaving the coast and the maps are still green. So we don’t see many people leaving.”

The NHC earlier said that people should be prepared to leave their places immediately if they are asked to do so by the authorities.

“Anybody living within this storm surge watch area, if you live in the storm surge evacuation zone, please start making preparations in case you are asked to evacuate by local officials,” Michael Brennan, the NHC director, told the Houston Chronicle. “Get ready to potentially leave your home, especially in those barrier islands,” he added.

Beryl is expected to make landfall between the port City of Corpus Christi and Galveston Island early on Monday (Jul 8).&nbsp;

As a precautionary measure parts of coastal Texas have been evacuated, reported news agency&nbsp;AFP.

The NHC in its update said that topical storm Beryl's winds were reaching 70 miles (110 kilometers) and it is expected to regain Hurricane status (winds reaching 119 kilometres or 74 miles).

Houston Mayor John Whitmire warned the public and said, "We have to take Beryl very, very seriously."
