<p>UNIFIL currently has 10,541 personnel from 46 nations, which includes 9,532 soldiers, 207 staff officers, 553 local civilians and 249 international civilians.</p>

<p>Indonesia and India are the top countries contributing troops and police to the mission, having sent 1,234 and 895 personnel respectively as of April 2024.<br />

<p>CBS aired a clip of the exchange between Harris and the host on <em>60 Minutes </em>that aired on October 6. The question was whether the US had any influence over Israel.</p>

Accusing CBS of making illegal changes to Harris look more presidential, Trump said in a post on Truth Social: “This is a stain on the reputation of 60 Minutes that is not recoverable… It is the very definition of FAKE NEWS! ”</p>

<p>Accusing CBS of 'deceptive editing,' Trump campaign national press secretary Karoline Leavitt called for the full, unedited version of the interview to be released.</p>

<p>"On Sunday, 60 Minutes teased Kamala's highly-anticipated sit-down interview with one of her worst word salads to date, which received significant criticism on social media. During the full interview on Monday evening, the word salad was deceptively edited to lessen Kamala's idiotic response," Leavitt said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Why did 60 Minutes choose not to air Kamala's full word salad, and what else did they choose not to air? The American people deserve the full, unedited transcript from Kamala's sit-down interview. We call upon 60 Minutes and CBS to release it. What do they, and Kamala, have to hide?," she asked.</p>

<p>Soon, right-wing media, politicians and commentariat also demanded that CBS release the full transcript. The issue became a full-blown meme on social media.</p>

<p>The New York Post editorial board wrote: "Given how awful Harris looked even after CBS chose to deceive its viewers, this may well be the last serious interview she does before Election Day: The network has a clear duty to the public to share the whole thing."</p>

<p>Writing on X, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham called for addressing the idea that the interview may have been "edited in a favorable way" to help Harris.</p>

Kamala Harris interview debacle: Demand grows for full transcript as CBS accused of 'deceptive editing' 

<p>China said on Monday it would punish and sanction Taiwanese businessman Robert Tsao and lawmaker Puma Shen for their alleged criminal and pro-Taiwan independence activities.</p>

<p>In a statement, the Taiwan Affairs Office said the "Black Bear Academy" that both men were associated with was seeking to incite separatism that would endanger cross-strait ties.</p>

<p>Tsao is one of Taiwan's richest men who pledged two years ago to provide millions to two civilian defence training programmes, including the Black Bear Academy. Shen, a lawmaker with the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), helps run Black Bear Academy training.</p>

<p>The State Council-level Taiwan Affairs Office said it would include Tsao and Shen on a list of "Taiwan independence" diehards and impose sanctions on them and the academy.</p>

<p>The move comes as China on Monday launched fresh military drills around the democratically governed island that China claims as its own. Beijing said the drills were a warning against "separatist acts of Taiwan independence forces" while denouncing Taiwan leader Lai Ching-te of the DPP.</p>

<p>"This is one of China's many acts of intimidation against Taiwan, including economic coercion, military threats...," a DPP spokesperson said in a statement to Reuters.</p>

<p>"These irrational acts will only further hurt the feelings of the Taiwanese people and damage cross-strait relations."</p>

<p>Tsao and Shen would be barred from travelling to China, Hong Kong and Macau, the statement added, while all affiliated enterprises and businesses linked to the pair would not be allowed to "seek profit" in China.</p>

<p>"The Black Bear Academy, with the support of the DPP authorities and external interference forces, has brazenly cultivated violent Taiwan independence elements and openly engaged in "Taiwan independence" separatist activities under the guise of lectures, training, and outdoor drills," the statement read, citing spokesman Chen Binhua.</p>

<p>Shen, speaking to reporters, described this as a provocation from China, rather than the other way around and said it reflected Beijing's great sensitivity towards any civilian defence initiatives in Taiwan.</p>

<p>"They will definitely use the threat of (economic) sanctions to conduct further grey zone warfare against Taiwan," he said.</p>

<p>The Black Bear Academy, also known as the Kuma Academy, said in a statement the moves are "nothing more than politically motivated attempts to undermine our mission and silence those who support Taiwan's right to self-determination and democratic values."</p>

<p>Tsao is the founder and former chairman of chip maker, United Microelectronics Corp, and has said he hoped his programmes would help train millions of "civilian warriors" through a mix of survival, military and counter surveillance, and technology courses.</p>

<p>Tsao and UMC gave no immediate response to Reuters' requests for comment.</p>

<h2><strong>What is THAAD? What are its capabilities? </strong></h2>

<p>THAAD stands for Terminal High Altitude Area Defense.&nbsp;THAAD is one of the most advanced missile defence systems of the US.</p>

<p>It is an integrated air and missile defence system built for the US Army&nbsp;by Lockheed Martin, which describes THAAD as a 'highly effective, combat-proven defence against short, medium and intermediate-range ballistic missile threats.'</p>

<p>THAAD is the only US defence system that can intercept incoming missiles from outside and inside the atmosphere.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The US currently has seven THAAD batteries. An eighth system is being built and will be field-ready in 2025.</p>

<p>Each THAAD battery has&nbsp;six launchers mounted on trucks, 48 missile interceptors, as well as radio and radar systems. It takes 95 soldiers to operate one THAAD battery.</p>

Highly mobile and deployable worldwide, THAAD can defend population centres and infrastructure in the area of operation. It is interoperable with&nbsp;<br />

<h2><strong>How will the war in Middle East change after THAAD deployment?</strong></h2>

<p>Israel, fighting a multifront war in the Middle East, will get a boost from THAAD as both Hamas and Hezbollah have been firing rockets and missiles across the border.</p>

<p>Israel&nbsp;had done a ground invasion of Lebanon in response to Hezbollah's rocket attacks. It&nbsp;is thought to be preparing a counterstrike against Iran which had dropped up to 180 missiles on October 1, soon after Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of Iran-backed group Hezbollah, was killed by Israel in Lebanon.</p>

<p>The US has been pressing Israel to spare the nuclear and energy facilities of Iran, given the potential ramifications for the global economy.</p>

<p>Iran has already warned the US against sending its military to the region.</p>

<p>The presence of THAAD and the US troops will add more fire to the conflict and risk an all-out-war despite diplomatic efforts to contain the tensions.</p>
