West Asia crisis: Israel hits Hezbollah strongholds in southern Beirut, third wave of airstrikes in 24 hours

Smoke rises over Beirut's southern suburbs from a generator that caught fire

Lebanese state media announced Wednesday (Nov 13) that Israel had conducted a third wave of airstrikes on Hezbollah-controlled areas in southern Beirut within 24 hours. These attacks followed a previous strike south of Beirut that, according to the health ministry, resulted in the death of six people.

“Enemy aircraft targeted Beirut's southern suburbs,” Lebanon’s official National News Agency (NNA) reported, adding that a total of six strikes took place. The Israeli army issued an evacuation warning to residents in certain parts of southern Beirut, making it the third such alert in the past 24 hours.

“You are located near facilities and interests affiliated with Hezbollah, against which the Israel Defense Forces (military) will act in the near future,” army spokesperson Avichay Adraee said in a post on X, along with a map of the designated areas.

Earlier on Wednesday, an Israeli strike on Aramoun, an area outside of Hezbollah’s usual strongholds south of Beirut, reportedly killed six people, the Lebanese health ministry confirmed.

“Body parts were recovered from the site and their identities are being verified,” the ministry added. The NNA reported that the strike targeted a residential building at dawn.

In a separate development on Wednesday, Hezbollah launched multiple rockets from Lebanon into northern Israel. The Israeli defence forces intercepted some of these rockets, though several did hit the ground. A home in the northern Israeli town of Maalot-Tarshiha was struck in the attack, though no injuries were reported.

The Israeli army said that air defences intercepted some of the 20 rockets launched, with others making ground impact.

Meanwhile, the Israeli military posted on X, "Muhammad Musa Salah, Ayman Muhammad Nabulsi and Hajj Ali Yussef Salah- Hezbollah’s Field Commanders of Khiam, Tebnit and Ghajar were eliminated in two separate strikes."

"These terrorists directed many terror attacks against Israelis and were responsible for the launches of more than 2,500 projectiles toward the areas of the Golan Heights, the Upper Galilee, the Galilee Panhandle, and toward IDF troops operating in southern Lebanon. This further degrades Hezbollah's capability to carry out terror attacks from southern Lebanon against Israeli civilians on the northern border," it added.
