Watch: Rodeo bull triggers mayhem after hopping fence

A rodeo bull triggered mayhem in the US state of Oregon after it jumped a fence in an attempt to escape the arena.

The incident took place during a rodeo event in Oregon on Saturday evening (June 8) when the bull hit the spectators in the crowd, injuring at least three people.

"I capture him completely going over the gate and disappearing," one of the spectator in the crowd Danielle Smithers, who witnessed and captured the ordeal, told KOIN 6.

"Then there’s this huge pause in the zone he came out of. It seems like people go right back to waving their lights, almost like they’re not really sure what to do."

The Sisters Rodeo Association released a statement on Sunday (June 9) saying that at least three people were wounded “as a direct result of the bull, two of whom were transported to a local hospital," reported local media outlet KTVZ-TV.

The association said that the bull was captured next to livestock holding pens and was later placed in a pen.

Deschutes County sheriff’s Sergeant Joshua Spano said that several ambulances were called on the site. The authorities shifted one patient with non-life-threatening injuries to a hospital, while a deputy sustained minor wounds.

“And about 30 seconds into it I stopped and I looked at it and I thought to myself, ‘this is just too beautiful not to have a video,’" Smithers said. She shut off her flashlight and “started recording the bull, just following him, making his loop and as he started coming around his second loop in my video, he goes right over” the fence, she said.

The Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association stated that the incident was a reminder that “while rodeo is a highly-entertaining sport, on very rare occasions it can also pose some risk.”

“PRCA sends our thoughts and well wishes to those who were injured or otherwise impacted by this frightening and very rare incident," the association said.
