Watch: 20 masked robbers carry out heist at Indian-owned jewellery in Sunnyvale, California

About 20 masked robbers stormed the Indian-owned PNG Jewelers store on Wednesday (June 12) in a daring heist that has stunned Sunnyvale, California. Caught on security camera, individuals wielding hammers and tools smashed display cases before making off with a trove of valuable jewellery, all in a matter of three minutes.

The incident is second-of-its-kind as a similar robbery took place at another Sunnyvale jewelry store in May. However, the two incidents have not been linked and authorities are trying to find out if they are related to each other in any manner.Two employees of the store were sitting in the front area at the time of the robbery.

The incident, captured on video quickly went viral on social media. Itshowed a turn of events taking place with brazen speed and precision that has left netizens in disbelief. The entire burglary took only about two and a half minutes to finish.The robbers quickly filled everything they could grab into their backpacks and fled.

Sunnyvale's Department of Public Safety sprang into action by responding swiftly to the chaotic scene. However, the robbers were equally swift and fled in multiple vehicles. All of this triggered a high-speed chase that stretched from the Sunnyvale city streets to the US Highway 101.

So far reports suggest that five suspects have been apprehended. They have been identified as Tonga Latu, Ofa Ahomana, Tavake Esafe, Afuhia Lavakeiaho and Kilifi Leaaetoa. They were swiftly booked into the Santa Clara County Jail.

No injuries were reported during the robbery as well as during the chase.

The worth of the stolen jewellery remains undisclosed at the moment. Authorities have, however, confirmed that a portion of the stolen goods has been recovered, reports suggest.

The five individuals were arrested on suspicion of offenses such as armed robbery, resisting arrest, felony vehicle evasion and vandalism.
