US: Trump, co-defendants to face arraignment in Georgia on September 6

Former US President Donald Trump is scheduled for arraignment in Georgia on charges related to his alleged involvement, along with 18 co-defendants, in efforts to overturn the state's election results.

Trump's arraignment is set for September 6 at 9:30 am ET, making him the first among the defendants to face proceedings in a comprehensive racketeering case. This case alleges that they participated in a criminal enterprise aimed at maintaining Trump's hold on power.

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee has staggered the arraignment times for all the defendants, with each given a 15-minute interval.

During these arraignment hearings, the defendants will formally hear the charges brought against them and enter their pleas. In Trump's previous three criminal cases, he has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

What's the case?

Two weeks ago, Trump and 18 co-defendants faced indictment from a grand jury in Fulton County. The charges stem from their alleged involvement in a criminal operation aimed at overturning Trump's 2020 election defeat to President Joe Biden in Georgia.

Trump and his chief campaign lawyer, Giuliani, singled out Georgia and other swing states won by Biden in an attempt to exert pressure on state officials, lawmakers, and judges, with the ultimate goal of reversing Trump's losses in these critical states. These states, including Georgia, were pivotal in securing Biden's Electoral College victory, the determining body in USpresidential elections.

All 19 defendants voluntarily surrendered in Atlanta last week for processing. Of these, 18 were released on varying bond amounts. The sole exception is Harrison Floyd, who remains in Fulton County Jail due to the absence of a pre-surrender bond agreement with the district attorney's office.
