Trump makes first public appearance since assassination attempt

Donald Trump

Two days after an assassination attempt, former President Donald Trump, with a bandage on his ear, arrived at the Republican National Convention alongside his running mate, Ohio Senator JD Vance on Monday (Jul15).

The former president was greeted by the crowd in Milwaukee with chants of “Fight,” a reference to Trump’s words after the assassination attempt.

With a white bandage on his ear, the former US president waved at the supporters and received a standing ovation from the cheering crowd, two days after the botched attack at a Pennsylvania rally.

Trumpmade no remarks to the convention, which erupted in loud applause and chants of "USA! USA!"

Instead, he stood alongside his newly announced running mate, Senator JDVance.

Given Saturday's horrific events, "he has proven to be one tough S.O.B.," Sean O'Brien, president of the major International Brotherhood of Teamsters union, told the convention.

Notably, Donald Trump has officially been named the Republican presidential nominee after securing enough delegate votes at the Republican National Convention, following an attempted assassination at a rally in Pennsylvania.

The votes from RNC delegates in Milwaukee confirmed Trump's nomination on Monday afternoon.

Vice presidential candidate

Donald Trumpofficially named Ohio Senator JD Vance as his running mate in the US presidential election at the start of the party's national convention in Milwaukee.

Vance was named Trump's running mate hours after the former president secured a major legal victory when a federal judge dismissed one of Trump's criminal prosecutions. Vance was a one-time harsh critic, but later became one of Trump's most loyal supporters in Congress.
