Torrential rain in east and south China has affected more than 1.63 million people, the Ministry of Emergency Management said on Tuesday.

Rainstorm which has battered Zhejiang and Jiangxi provinces in east China, Hunan Province in central China, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in south China, Chongqing Municipality, Sichuan Province and Guizhou Province in southwest China, affecting the lives of 1.634 million people. A total of 77,000 people have been relocated.

The rain also caused the water levels of some rivers to rise above the warning levels. The Office of State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters issued the lowest level emergency response plan on Tuesday and sent four working groups to some of those regions to join the relief operations.

The Office, together with the National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration, also deployed 50 rubber boats to Jiangxi Province on Tuesday to join the rescue operation.
