Special counsel Robert Mueller subpoenas Trump's Deutsche Bank records

Special counsel Robert Mueller -- looking into possible collusion between the Trump presidential campaign and Russia -- has subpoenaed Trump's Deutsche Bank financial records, news reports said Wednesday.

Deutsche Bank, Germany's biggest bank, is a long-time Trump financier.

White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders however rejected the reports as "completely false", as did Trump's personal attorney Jay Sekulow.

"No subpoena has been issued or received. We have confirmed this with the bank and other sources," AFP reported Sekulow as saying in a statement.

"We have confirmed that the news reports that the special counsel had subpoenaed financial records relating to the president are false."

The news of the subpoena had first been reported by German business newspaper Handelsblatt.

Handelsblatt reported on Tuesday that Deutsche Bank had been asked to hand over financial information about Trump and members of his family.

It reported that the subpoena arrived "a few weeks ago," and that the most important of the files asked for had already been sent to Mueller.

AFP reported one source as corroborating the information.

It reported a second source familiar with the investigation as saying the subpoena was linked to Trump's indicted former campaign chairman Paul Manafort.
