South Carolina US Election 2024: The United States will go to the polls to elect the 47th president of the country on November 5, 2024. Donald Trump (Republican Party candidate) and Kamala Harris (Democratic Party) are the top contenders in the election.This would be Trump's third attempt to become the president after winning the 2016election, while Vice President Kamala Harris would be contesting for the first time. Harris was chosen as the Democrat candidate after Joe Biden stepped down from the race and endorsed her to be the nominee.

On November 5, millions of eligible voters will come out of their houses across the country's 50 states, including South Carolina, to exercise their franchise to elect the candidate who will represent the United States for the next four years.

South Carolina, the 40th-largest state in the Southeastern region of the country has a population of 5,118,425 according to the 2020 census. The total number of people eligible to vote stands at 3,432,228, as of Oct. 4, 2024.

Donald Trump, Kamala Harris, and five third-party candidates will compete for the state’s nine electoral votes to replace Joe Biden and choose the 47th president of the country. Historically, South Carolinais a Republican stronghold, the last Democrat to win the seat was Jimmy Carter in 1976. However, four years ago, Trump won South Carolina by about 22 percentage points.

South Carolina hasn’t seen much mail voting for several years. This year’s early voting period in the state opened Oct. 21 and concludes Nov. 2, according to the Associated Press.
