Mexico: 3,593 new coronavirus cases registered; actual figures much higher

Even with a strict lockdown in place, Mexico recorded3,593 new confirmed cases of coronavirus and 341 additional fatalities, taking the total in the country to 113,619 cases and 13,511 deaths.

The total number of infections, however, are likely to be much higher, according to the government. The unknown infections can be due to people not coming ahead to get tested, according to local media and local experts.

The country has been under a strict lockdown for a while now. However, the number of cases has been on a constant rise.

The government is also looking into the matter of fake death certificates which may have been issued by several doctors instead of declaring COVID-19 as the cause of death, according to Mexico City officials.

Mexico City Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum also alleged that many doctors have been selling the death certificates instead of issuing them for free, as is the usual norm, to avoid the lengthy andbureaucratic process.

This is not the first business to have surfaced from the pandemic. Mexicanshave attracted a bad name for making a business out of illegally dumping hospital and medical waste, and also funeral services.

Not just the coronavirus cases, homicide cases and protests, too, have been recording an increase during the lockdown.
