In her first reaction to her son's victory in the New York mayoral election, Indian-American filmmaker Mira Nair shared an Instagram story praising Zohran Mamdani on his win.

“Zohran you beauty,” she wrote, reposting Indian movie director Zoya Akhtar's congratulatory post.

Former president Barack Obama congratulated Democratic candidates who won on Tuesday (Nov 4).

“Congratulations to all the Democratic candidates who won tonight. It’s a reminder that when we come together around strong, forward-looking leaders who care about the issues that matter, we can win. We’ve still got plenty of work to do, but the future looks a little bit brighter,” he wrote on X.

“For as long as we can remember, the working people of New York have been told by the wealthy and the well-connected that power does not belong in their hands, fingers bruised from lifting boxes on the warehouse floor, palms calloused from delivery bike handle bars, Knuckles scarred with kitchen burns. These are not hands that have been allowed to hold power,” Mamdani said. “And yet, over the last 12 months, you have dared to reach for something greater. Tonight, against all odds, we have grasped it.
