Indian-origin techie votes in US

As the United States votes for their next president in the 2024 elections, an Indian-origin techie shared powerful views on voting as an American citizen. Srini Iragavarapu, the director of generative AI applications at Amazon, posted a photograph of himself with his son at a ballot box, gaining hundreds of reactions.

The techie talked about the right the vote given to him and the responsibility the citizens hold for future generations in a lengthy post on LinkedIn titled ‘Call to Exercise Democratic Right’.

“Just fulfilled my civic duty by voting: If you're eligible to vote but haven't yet done so, please exercise this right. Your location's political leaning or your feelings about the candidates shouldn't deter you,” he wrote in the LinkedIn post. He urged citizens to vote regardless of whether they were enthusiastic about the candidates. “Voice matters,” he said.

Iragavarapu wrote that while he was born in India, he “chose” America as his home. He added that he appreciates the right to vote given to him.

“As someone who was born in India and chose America as my home, I deeply appreciate that this right was granted to me.” The techie further talked about the impact of every vote in an election. He believes it is the “responsibility” of citizens to vote and ensure the future of the next generation is better, adding that in two more election cycles, his son will be eligible to vote.

“When I cast my ballot today, I wasn't just thinking about immediate changes. I was looking ahead to the future – in just two election cycles, my son will have his own voice in our democracy. We have a responsibility to ensure that the world we pass on to the next generation is better than the one we inherited. Our votes today shape their tomorrow,” he wrote.

The post was praised by users and received hundreds of reactions, applauding the Amazon techie’s views on American democracy.
