Ignacio Lopez managed to rescue some belongings after his home was destroyed by the eruption of the Volcan de Fuego in Guatemala on Monday (June 4), one of which was more special than others.
Lopez, who was filmed by the reporter Julio Lopez of the Guatemalan radio station Emisoras Unidas, was covered in dust and carrying a large sack on his shoulder, which he said he used to save a few of his belongings. He was also carrying his petdogthat he held in his arms.
When asked if he had lost any relatives, Ignacio Lopez replied that he didn't know the whereabouts of his sister, Ana Olivia and whether she was buried underground or had been rescued.
Ignacio Lopez was filmed by the radio reporter walking along the National Route 14 highway near the small village of El Rodeo, in the southern region of Escuintla.
The eruption of Fuego - Spanish for "fire" - on Sunday was the biggest in more than four decades, and the number of fatalities from the massive volcano eruption rose to 62 on Monday.
