Republican party's Donald Trump is all set to be back as the 47th president of the United States (POTUS). This would be Trump's second stint in the White House after serving as POTUS from 2016 to 2020. The former president beat Democratic candidate and Vice President Kamala Harris for the victory.
During the campaign, Trump had promised several things he would do on day 1, if he won, including being a 'dictator for a day.' Here are a few of those things Trump promised to do on the first day of his second term:
Dictator on Day 1
At an event last year with Fox News host Sean Hannity, Trump said he would "ever abuse power as retribution against anybody except day 1."
Upon being asked to elaborate, Trump said: "I want to close the border and I want to drill, drill, drill. We're closing the border and we're drilling, drilling, drilling. After that, I'm not a dictator."
Free January 6 Rioters
Trump had also promised to release some of the people convicted for the January 6 riots. Around 1,530 people have been charged criminally in federal court for January 6, 2021, attack on Capitol after Trump lost the election to Joe Biden.
"I am inclined to pardon many of them. I can't say for every single one, because a couple of them, probably they got out of control," he had announced on social media last year.
Mass Deportations
Donald Trump, during his rally at Madison Square Garden in New York City last weekend, said that he'll launch American history's biggest deportation programme if re-elected.
"On Day 1, I will launch the largest deportation programme in American history to get the criminals out," he said. "I will rescue every city and town that has been invaded and conquered, and we will put these vicious and bloodthirsty criminals in jail, then kick them the hell out of our country as fast as possible."
